out there, dude
Just about to graduate - from MP to SP, and my first time in Canada too... What is the protocol in GTA regarding tipping? How much is normal? If a tip is given, is it with the donation, or afterwards. Some sites, mainly independent, mention or imply all inclusive. Ive seen some good reviews and just dont want to be a jackass when I get good service.

The prevailing opinion I've seen on this board from hobbyists is that not only is tipping unnecessary, but can even be a bad precedent. What do the SP's on the board say?

The rule of thumb I use is to have in mind the services I feel constitute average performance for an SP. If an SP exceeds that performance, then I will tip accordingly. And I have a high standard, btw. If not, then no tip. This is at the end, obviously.

I dunno, maybeI am going against the hobbyist union code, but I think if you give a woman a tip for bringing you a plate of food, then you should give a woman a tip for sucking your d**k really well.

<< Putting on my flame retardant suit >>

Excellent analogy, and I'm going to use it against you!

You go to a restaurant for a meal... the price you pay is for the food you eat... the tip you leave is for the service provided to make it easier for you to consume that food. You dont tip at McDonalds because you have cut out that middleman.

Likewise, the fee you pay to an MP or SP is for the agreed upon service. If something extra is provided above and beyond the agreed upon service (a trip to the Greek Islands for example), then a tip is warranted. But why tip for something you are already paying for?

If you are this generous, give the cashier at Burger King an extra dollar next time you get your Whopper! LOL!

This is NOT a case of being cheap... its just common sense and standard business practice. Having said this, tips are always appreciated but IMHO not necessary in most instances.

It is interesting that the 3 in favour of tipping are Americans, long looked on as a generous people. I guess the Yanks appreciate a fine doodle dandying. (Please excuse the butchery of verse - I could not help myself.)

It's not really that interesting when you consider that post after post from our U.S. friends usually indicate prices quoted by SP's from there seem to only cover them showing up at the door! They almost always write about having to pay extra for anything else!Over here, unless you're in a place like Windsor, where tipping seems the norm because of lower agency rates,it is normally considered included.
And as to the earlier comparison,I don't know where you eat,but I don't pay a waitress a couple hundred bucks an hour to bring me food!

Shadow hit the nail IMHO. I'm parachtuting in from "whoawherewasIjustatdude?", what am I supposed to do? Agree with the muncher and others in that I want to cheer on the extra mile. But neither do I want to participate in creating a culture of entitlement, nor do I want to be a countercultural poopster....

Totally cool posts.

PS.... M-Yo rocks in resident AEVYLL.... would kick A-Jo butt any day of the week IMHO

PPS - who can remember what TSR stands for? As I think I saw somewhere else in this community, "If you like it too much, you can always pull out...", can anyone still do that in 6068 assembler???

Okay, okay, I will never tip again :p

I am not trying to convince anyone to tip. I happen to believe a tip rewards and reinforces desired behaviors. As such, I am willing to give an SP who does things I like more than an SP who doesn't. It's not like I give a tip to everyone or for just anything.

As an aside, it is a mystery to me why there some service people you are supposed to tip, and others you don't. Why does the skycap get a tip? He handled your bag for 20 seconds and moved it about 4 feet.

Gotta love a thread which compares SP's to waitresses, dentists, mechanics and trips to the Greek Islands, which is an analogy I like, btw.

If I really like the lady and want to see her again in the future, I will tip. In my experience, a little extra goes a long way in future appointments. :)

tipping

I rarely tip independents. I feel that they set their fee (and I will not haggle) at what they think is fair to them. If I get good to excellent service I will repeat (and repeat and repeat). If I see an independent with some regularity, I may add something in the nature of a present at certain times of the year.
On the other hand, if I am seeing an agency lady, I tip based upon the service received. I think that I base it on the fact that the lady is not getting everything and she may deserve a little "private" money.
Before anyone jumps on me that an agency lady has agreed to work for her "cut" of the overall fee, I just think that the situations are different. I do realize that agency ladies do not have the overhead that an independent SP has (advertising, telephone, dispatchers). On the other hand, she has less control over the amount of the fee. An independent is free to set the fee at what she wants to while the agency has a significant input into the fee that is charged.

Do escorts tip these people?
On a few different occasions, I've tipped both an electrician and a mechanic...

my 2 cents:

rule of thumb: -- regardless of the job in question -- always tip for good service -- and don't be cheap about it...

always "grease" the doorman, maitre'd, bellhop, check-in girl at least a $20 when travelling (Can or US) -- you'd be surprised how over the long run ( and I travel quite a bit ) you have a better experience with the "little things" -- ie. car is parked right out front, room is upgraded to a suite, best seat in restaurant, better table service etc...--- and it's ALWAYS accepted even if it's at first turned away and works like 90% of the time -- trust me.

same goes for SP -- if you have any thoughts of ever seeing a girl more than once and the service was good -- at least thank her with a $50 on the way out -- don't say anything cornball, just slip it to her with a smile ( that money, that is.) :) next time you see her most girls will remember you -- like a good waiter in a restarurant should...

needless to say, if the service is no good or especially if it's "rushed" service -- don't tip and don't repeat -- that only helps promote weak service in what can probably be deemed the "ulitmate customer service based industry."

I think you shouldn't feel obliged to tip. In places where SP are cheap and plentiful, regulars are constantly trying to stop newbies from overpaying...which drives up prices. I think that prices must be kept reasonable. Just like a lap dance isn't worth $20 for 3 mins. (Fairbanks $8!!) I'm not cheap, but I don't like to be ripped off.

Just like in any job a tip will be remembered. As an SP I can say that tipping isn't necessary, but is appreciated. If you want to make a good impression and be sure the SP remembers you and what you like then tip. It doesn't have to be a lot, some guys give your $10 or $20 dollars, it doesn't matter the amount it's just a way of saying thank you I had a good time. I can say that some of my best and most memorable hosts have given me things that aren't money~ books, music, candy, a purse, whatever. One who I know did not have a lot of money burned a disc of music he thought I would like. I thought it was sweet and we had a great time that day.

Tips...

I can honestly say I remember all who have tipped me... And all who haven't. They are not expected... They are just a really nice treat.

If you are someone who tips... Go for it... If not... then don't.

Biggest monitay tip on an hour... 175$. Longer... Um that is not something I would care to post... (Blushing now)

Sweetest tip... That cost realtively little... A single rose.

Most useful tip... Um... Define useful ;)

Most unlikely tip... A weekend away...

Favorite tip... A kiss on the cheek and a call back...

Hey... I am not one to ask for a tip... but it makes you feel good...

As far as making 7$ an hour... Well then again I don't work a 40 hour week... (Most of the time... lol) . I also don't tend to serve you food or pump your gas... LMAO.

It is one of those things where it is to each their own... But I will tell you this... Tipping does not drive up the price... It just puts her in a better mood most of the time... Oh and if you see someone regularly and her birthday comes up (you can generally find out on her site) a card is nice. Just an idea if the monitary tip is not your thing.

Oh and one more...
Strangest tip... His favorite shirt... It was a going away preasent when I was moving and leaving last time around.
