Whenever I catch a game on TV (be it hockey, baseball, etc.) I often wonder what the players and/or competitors are talking about.

I have never had the opportunaty of sitting behind the bench or on front row to hear discussions but if anyone has, I'm curious as to what they are talking about.

The reason I'm asking is years ago I seen a baseball clip of a baseball player sitting in the dugout who lift up his leg and cranked out a fart. The teammates around him immediately began laughing and then scrambled from his prescense (needless to say I broke out laughing - Big time!).

What I'm wondering is:

* Do they talk about the game only?
* Do they point out where a hot chick is sitting?
* Do they crack jokes?
* What do they say at first base? Some guys seem friendly (Delgado) while others are quiet (Olerud).

Any input would be welcome. After all, these guys are only human and whatever pranks we pull off at work or with friends I tend to think that they do the same.

Being skilled in lipreading has had me privy to some really funny and some really disgusting jokes, not to mention the racial slurs flying back and forth.

Do share sheik, do share! No names please, I'm just curious as to what is said.

depends on the sport

I think it depends on the sport. The baseball season is so long and the games so rythmical and predictable that the players on the bench hardly need to pay attention to what is going on on the field. Thus more times for jokes, taking in the sites, etc.

Football and hockey are a little faster paced, turnovers etc. mean that you have to pay attention to what is going on - pity the special teams player who fails to realize he is supposed to be on the field. Also football season is so short that every game is potentially more important than an individual baseball game.

When Ed Sprague played for the Jays he and a couple of other guys used to have tobacco spitting contests in the dugout - every game there would be 3 disgusting puddles of tobacco on the dirt in front of the dug out.

Rumor was also that Roberto Alomar used to scout the stands while on the field and send messages to woman using the dugout staff. Rumor was he also used to pull himself from games and then just scope the stands for prospective dates.
