I'm thinking of getting the procedure done.....anyone have first hand experience or know someone who has? Any recommended surgeons and any to stay away from? Is it true that you lose night vision? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I have a few friends who've had it done so I asked them for their input.

First of all, they have all been happy with their results.
The centres they recommended were TLC , Herzig, and Bochner. It might be more expensive at these centres vs. other centres but hey, this is your eyes we're talking about.....spend that extra amount you won't regret it.

As for the night vision problems, it's a possibility but not that common. None of my friends have that problem. Again, it's likely to happen with the 'cheapie' centres because they tend to cut corners with the work-up and treatment equipment they use, that's why it's cheaper.

Your best bet is to visit each place you are considering and ask for a tour and meet the surgeon who will perform the laser surgery.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys for the input, and LOL thanks for the review floman that's very helpful......my vision is about -6.75 and I consider myself practically blind, so your pre-surgery vision must have been pretty bad. What would the price be for both eyes? Does it vary with each client, ie depending on present vision? Does your vision continue to slowly deteriorate or does it stabilize? Even at 34, I need a new prescription about every 2 years.

Guys with perfect vision have it so easy. No late night dry eyes from contacts, and no worrying about not being able to sleep over at any "new acquaintance's" place;) unless you happen to pack your glasses and contact lens solutions in your car.

My mother had the operation done last year and she loves it. It is true that the operation can mess with your night vision but that can be corrected. in a few days my mom went from being almost blind to perfect visio, no need for glasses at all. and at some point guaranteed I'm getting my eyes done too.

Ned Flanders had the surgery done and his eyes exploded 10 years later.

Lisa had been elected President of the US and Ned always gives Bart money because Bart did not "out" Rod and Tod.

Hey,

A friend of mine had this done and he told me the most important thing is to reseach both laser surgery techniques. Lasik is one and I can't recall the other. He went with the other becasue it was better for his case. However, Lasik is the cheaper option and very few doctors can do both types though there is one in Toronto. Also, his night vision improved drastically after the proceedure and he sees better than 20/20 now.

I would like to do this also but had a question about the "flap".
To those that had the procedure does the "flap" heal and re-attachor does the "flap" always remain loose?

The staff @ TLC were great and hot too! Too bad I don't have my monthly and yearly follow-up visits down there - I'd gladly pay for parking and gas to travel down there to say "Hi" to the ladies.
Yeah, check out the pics of the ladies at TLC's website, they are hot. Imagine, you get a massage, release and your eyesight corrected! Fireman you are the true hobbiest!!!

not usually one for me toos but.....

Since January 2001, I have not had to wear glasses, thanks to LASIK surgery and Dr. Reinstein. I had eyes in the -4 range, and had no complications or problems.

The most important thing is not the clinic you choose, but the surgeon you end up with. The best clinic could stick you with a comparatively inexperienced surgeon and that would be bad. My doc was not only a verten with over 7000 prodcedures, he was a professor, teaching others how to do it. Do your homework, and there's almost no risk. A reputable clinic will give a comprehensive evaluation at low cost - this will tell you what kind of candidate you are and the likelihood of success and/or complications.

I had some scratchy, dry eyes for a while, but regular eye drops took care of that, and I didn't need them much at all after two weeks.
