Was in Chapters yesterday and saw the latest Maxim magazine...

Toronto was voted the best city! with great bars, great restaurants, great clubs. etc

They forgot to mention this hobby and great ladies on this board .... ;)

<chuckle>

They ran a couple of dozen split issues so theat each major city in North America could be voted best city.

Toronto
supposedly all the cities they said were the worst were written up as best in their respective markets.....I wonder what they said about Toronto that made it one of the worst.....should be entertaining, anyone have an issue from another city?

It is funny though how Toronto seems to be so desperate to hear this type of thing. We have a very nice city, but let's not compare ourselves to New York, Paris, London or a few others.

In a house somewhere
Ignoring the fact that Toronto loves to call itself a world class city, what's the point in having different issues saying that the city it is in is the best city. Does that mean there are separate issues for each Canadian city??

Why not just have one city "voted" best? (if ever there was even a vote)

this was done as an April Fool's joke....

i believe there were 13 issues - probably for all of north america - so it is unlikely that any other canadian city got its own issue - in many magazines, they print regional issues in which everything but the advertising is the same - i think canada counts as one region for most US magazines

(this also explains how penthouse was able to run a canadian edition with the black squares in it).

Let's not even compare New York, or any NorAm city, to London or Paris.

i have a maxim from nyc for toronto it says
Hankering for a dose of "European sofistication" on your own continent? Put on 16 coats and mush up on to this frozen wasteland, where the broads - true to Canada's french roots - dont shave. Anywhere. But, hey, to each his own: if wookie-bushed chatterbox in flannel and fleece is your dream girl, go for it. Freak.
Typical Resident: A frostbitten alcoholic who lives in his moms garage and can quote Bob and Dog routines verbatim.
Best Thing About It: The Liquor Control Board of Ontario, the largest booze store in the U.S.

last time i checked the lcbo was in ontario which is canada not the usa! and they did do many diff cities look in the verbatim section of newsweek from earlier this month...the editor of maxim compares it to sleeping with 13 diff girls in 13 diff cities

LOL thanks WooHoo that's what I wanted to know.....they similarly skewered all of the other cities in the Toronto issue....and a simple answer as to why they have different "best cities": if you're walking by the newstand and see that your city is voted best chances are that you will buy that issue. Brilliant marketing by the Maxim people, by far the most entertaining magazine out there.

i think its just market whoring. i agree it is a good marketing move and had they done it differently i wouldnt be annoyed with them like had they said "10 reasons y toronto is the best city in the world" but they didnt if they were gonna have a vote they shouldve actually picked a city
