caught the CTV dinner hour news tonite, new senate appointments, talk of six Liberal appointees including Eggleton and D'Allaire (sp?), talk of two 'Progressive' Conservative appointees...but not a single word about the New Democrat appointee, not a word...now why do you think that is???

btw, you kids happy with an appointed senate???

Given that it is official NDP policy to abolish the Senate, you have to wonder just why you are surprised...
Winston, I'm not surprised at all. I was pointing out the uneven media coverage. Jack and the NDP are ignored by the media.

Just to be clear on a few points...
1) I do not support any political party
2) I believe the senate should be abolished. The concept of an appointed body which can overturn the actions of an elected body in a democratic country is laughable
3) Art Eggleton should be in prison

cheers,

4) the small number of replies to this thread indicates that Canadians are as dozy as Senators

such a sad state of affairs...

And of course, if you are worried that the Senate is going to overturn legislation, then I guess that you are horrified that the GG must actually give Royal Assent for legislation to become law.

.
neither senate nor gg would dare run counter to the elected HofC. If they did, there would be blood in the streets of Ottawa...or at least there should be blood in the streets, if Canadians had half a clue.

What about the Canadian United States Free trade agreement (the senate forced an election over the issue) or the GST (the government had to go to the Queen to appoint extra Senators to get it passed). I don't remember blood in the streets. If you were out protesting these actions, you have my respect.

. The senate is designed to be the chamber of "sober second thought". .
'sober second thought' ... yes, I've heard that justification since I was a child.
In reality, a senate seat is a political plum...nice work if you can get it, and you can get it if you try.

No, I was not out there protesting, difficult to get away from the farm...even the cows are mad!
No blood in the streets, this is Canada.
