In other words, anyone who breathed their first breath in Canada is Canadian. Notice there is no mention of ethnicity, culture, or religion.

That's what I used to think too. Then I had an argument/discussion with someone and we looked up the word in an Oxford dictionary. It does have one definition that includes ancestors who came from another country. However, I just checked my Gage Dictionary of Canadian and it does not. Thus, it seems to depend on the dictionary.
