I like the increases in spending on defence and the coast guard. However, the actually spending is some years in the Future so the liberals have some time to back track. Likewise with the tax cuts. I don’t like all the extra money being given to half not provinces. I think that the Billions the liberals have spent so far on the new Atlantic Accord should be more than enough to buy the handful of seats involved in the next election. I think that that money could have been better spent on reducing national debt. The increase in RRSP limits should help boost savings (and hence, over the long term, economic growth and the trade surplus). I hear that they have made the EI rules for seasonal workers in high unemployment provinces more generous. I am very much against that as it will just encourage people to stay in communities and occupations that are not economically viable. Overall, it could have been worse.

Budget is a Farse

A few people have stated that this is an campaign style "promise" budget. Make things look rosie down the road a few years, and make everyone think you are catering to them(use that to win the next election), and then within a couple of years, you can reneg on the balance of the projected budget.

16 bucks next year, works out to 4.4 cents back in our pocket per day by raising the personal exemption. Or 50 cents a day by the end of the budget. They will find something to eat it up like the EI reduction=CPP increase.

Not enough done upfront, or too little too late for some programs. They've got the Conservatives off their back, and leaves them in power to screw up the country for a little longer.

All in all I think it was a pertty good budget. Being the only country in the G8 to have 8 consecutive balanced budgets is nothing to sneeze at. I'm gald to see an injection in the military, unfortunately it is too little too late. The one thing that pisses me off though is that again there was a surpluss. The way I see it is that the government is unable to spend your money better than you can. This is money that would be better off in my pocket (well maybe my favourite SP's) ;)

We have a $501 Billion debt. There is no surplus. Put the money into paying it down.
