depends how drunk I am
With all these threads lately about the latest video games like GTA S.A, Gran Turismo, etc., I thought I'd start one about the 'old school' classic games. I'm talk'n about games like Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong, Galaxian, etc. I mean REALLY old school. LOL

I recently D/L'ed some of these classic games and use MAME as the emulator and man....even though I have games like GTA vice city and FIFA World Cup on my HD, I find myself playing the old school classics almost non-stop. True, these old school games have lame graphics compared to today's, but they just seem to be more fun. Maybe it's the simplicity of the games, or the fact that they bring back so many great memories of my childhood when I would hit the arcade/corner store after school and pop all those quarters in till I ran out of my allowance.

Anyone else still have fun playing these old video games or am I the only one? If you do, then what's your favourite game? Mine would be Galaga...I could play it for hours and still not get bored.

That's nothing. I have bought exactly one video game in my lifetime - PONG.

I have Millipede and Ms. Pacman, the actual vintage arcade games, which I purchased at an auction a couple of years ago. They were not that expensive either. I played them a lot when I first got them, but lately not so much. They are just taking up space in my condo now.

I played countless hours of Millipede when I was in college, and when I was in grad school, one of my housemates had a Ms. Pacman game, so I have fond memories of both. I also played a lot of Space Invaders and Donkey Kong. I never got the hang of Defender or Missile Command.

Favourite old video games I wouldn't mind playing:

Galaxian
1942 (or Skyshark; sort of like 1942 but better...)
Streetfighter II (and Champions Edition was great...)
Tetris
Any old Mario Brothers for Nintendo would still be fun...

LOL. Reminds me of my much younger days when we'd go to one of those Yonge St. arcades to play Pong, and then Foosball.

Wow...does this ever bring back memories of skipping class with my buddies and going to the poolhall to play space invaders. Would love to know where to D/L these classics.

If I remember correctly I just did a google on free games one night. Had to search a couple, two or three sites though till I found Pacman and Space Invaders. It's a bit different using the keyboard instead of a joy stick, but still fun. Nice thing about them is they are perm downloads. Unlike some others that you only get a trail offer that only last so long.

Game Pak for Playstation 2

I bought a game pak of most of the popular 80s games for Playstation 2. It really brings you back to your arcade days. The pak includes:

Joust
Spy Hunter
Defender
Defender 2
Galaga
Ms. Pacman
Dig Dug
Pacman
Pole Position
Root Beer
etc

hornyharry, I D/L'ed them from a p2p. You can pretty much get them on any file sharing site. If you'd prefer a direct link for the MAME32 emulator-

http://www.geoshock.com/downloads/emulators/mame.phtml

http://www.vg-network.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=getit&lid=7913

for MAC users-

http://emulation.net/mame/

for thousands of ALL the original classics game ROMs-

http://www.romnation.net/srv/roms/mame.html

These are the original arcade programs, not the crappy Coleco/Nintendo home imitation versions. These ones are straight from the arcade...they even have the flashing 'insert coin' display LOL. Right now, I'm running version mame32v66b and use a gamepad controller. There's instructions on these sites on how to set up and use. Best of all...it's totally free! Enjoy.

Dig~Dug fans unite.

It is my all-time favourite. I believe that I hold the world record (arcade version), 255 rounds, 4M+ points.
