In 46 days the good ol' McGuinty fiberals are delisting physiotherapy services from OHIP coverage. Chiropractic treatments and eye exams for those under 65 were delisted previously. In the meantime they also hit us with a health care premium which is the most regressive tax we've seen in quite some time. Physiotherapy is an essential medical service. In many cases it acts as a preventative measure from muscle deterioration in the elderly. Those of us who play sports and strain or tear muscles or even break bones and rely on rehab will have to pay out of pocket if they don't have private coverage. Same goes for those who accidentally slip on the ice and need treatment. How about those chronic back pain sufferers? This is just plain ludicrous especially when you consider abortions which are not medically necessary are still covered under OHIP. Oct 2007 is a long time to wait to get these liberal clown artists turfed from power.

You are feeling the effects and costs of a universal healthcare system. Europe for years has struggled with this issue. Europe had chosen in the past to raise taxes. Some tax rates have surpassed the 50% mark even in the lowest tax brackets.
Even today after all these raises the health care and pension system is in trouble.
Looks to me thay Ontario has chosen to cut services. Either way you dice it and slice, if something is "free"(which it really isn't) it is more likely to be abused. As a result people use the system if there need or not. As a result it becomes more and more expensive to maintain.
The only choice that remains, is either to cut services or raise taxes.

Hellholes of the earth
Its not merely a matter of user abuse, although abuse is abundant. The system itself is at fault, corrupt to the core with cancer. The sector I work in forces me to live in small towns. Somewhat surprisingly, these small towns all have brand new hospitals replacing facilities that aren't really out of date - rather, it seems like a building spree, to see who gets to replace the hospital in the least possible time. One town, pop. 17 000, replaced a twenty year old hospital, despite losing 6000 pop in the same interval. Then they began crying for a MRI machine. The province opposed, stating that the cost couldn't be justified, especially since a MRI scan isn't an essential emergency response tool, offering instead to fly users 200 miles to the narest facility, all expenses paid up front. Yet they screamed away, eventually sucking another two million off the province's budget. And for what - just how many MRI scans does a pop of 17 000 consume per year? Most certainly, such blatant misadministration is rampant throughout the system. That is what has to be addressed - the lottery aspect of a use it or lose it budget with annual growth rates of ten percent.

Well said Tom. You nailed it right on the head. Our health care system is WAY to fat. Though...don't hold your breath for those those assheads (McGuinty-Smithman-Sorbera) to think outside the box and run Health Care more efficiently first before raising taxes, and cutting services.

I don't think I've hated a political figure as much as I do McGuinty.

Oh and by the way... our Health Care isn't "free", we pay plenty for it.

I guess it all depends on whose ox is being gored. You wanna play sports? Maybe you should contract for some private insurance and not ask the rest of us to cover your care like this was some goddamn worker paradise!! :p

If McGuinty was using his 'Health Premium' to actually pay for taxes I don't think people would care as much but call it what it really is a tax grab that goes into the general revenue of the province.

McGuinty has to go. You don't delist services after grabbing money to pay for it. Nothing is getting better and with Forrest Gump at the reigns don't get your hopes up. Optometry and chiropractic services I can understand in delisting. Optometry isn't a big problem (I wear contacts) that needs a lot of money or time to fix for normal people and chiropractic services have never really been proven to improve health, thats why chiropractics don't have real medical degrees.

Pysiotherapy on the other hand is one of the most important factors of modern medical recovery. People who get pysio do this because they have had a major injury, surgury or accident. But than again I guess when I run McGuinty's car off the 401 his salary will be able to cover all the pysio he'll ever need.

Tax and spend liberals make me want to puke my guts out.

Just trying to remember that model of fiscal rectitude that McGuinty ran against. Hmmm. Who was it now? Oh yeah, now I remember. Ernie Eves!

Frustrating that they would announce this when there is a proposal to spend $400 million on the Windsor Casino??
