Had an interesting visit to Hamilton Strip the other night. I popped in for a look-see. The place was not that busy, and the dancers seemed bored.

I sat down and had a few girls wander past me and stop to ask if I wanted a dance. I thanked them and said "Not right now thanks, maybe later.". Which is polite and non-committal.

A blonde dancer came up, said her name was Ginger. She seemed a tad tipsy and asked me my name, told me hers. ASked how long I had been in the bar.

She has a large tatoo across her stomache, hard to miss. I said "That's an interesting tatoo, some serious ink there."
"I don't want to talk about it. Talk about something else because I am getting bored." I just looked at her. (I almost started to laugh, but she had a bottle in her hand....)

"So are you going to get a dance now or what?"
"No thanks, maybe later."
"Whatever, I might be busy later. Thanks for wasting my time." And she walked away.

I had a dance later with another dancer, and was sitting down at another section. She came up to me and asked "You having a good time?"
"Yes thanks."
"Good". and then she turned and walked away.

Anyone else ever had a dancer get pissy with you? Or just plain strange?

And is there a nicer way of deferring a dance, to give yourself a chance to see if there is another dancer you would rather have a dance from?

This kind of thing happens all the time...I don't think you could or should have done anything differently. I use the same approach that you do when the girls ask me to dance because I like to see who's there before I decide, unless I'm there to see someone in particular.

You say in your post that she seemed tipsy...between that & whatever is happening in her personal/working life is probably why she acted that way. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Thanks for the replies

Well at least I am not alone in experienceing this.
I try to be polite and nice, even when I am not going to buy a dance, but bad customer service annoys me a great deal.

Quiettype: I hear what you're saying, but I truly believe customer service is the last thing on most of these girls' minds. And I guess you're not really a customer if you're not buyin'!! However, I don't think that gives them license to rag on you. For myself, I pretty much stick to my regular girls, but you're right, some of the girls they bring in there can be pretty offensive!!

Bobzilla:

Well I was a customer of the bar, had bought a 5 dollar glass of pop, and was going to, and did buy a dance (ok, more than one :) ) from another dancer. I just was not Ginger's specific customer.

I just did not want a dance from her, and I was polite, nice and not dismissive, but i just did not want to get a dance from her, and she got nasty.

And if the dancers are so rude that folks stop going to the bar in general then the entire bar suffers from lack of income because customers are intimidated, or annoyed by aggressive dancers.

Sure I know their time is money, but it is MY money they want, and I will spend it on a dancer that I find attractive, funny, or whatever criteria I want to have attached to spending 20 bucks a song and 5 bucks a glass of pop. Having a drunk dancer get snotty to me is not my idea of a fun night....

That's what I meant by customer service.

boycott them

the strip in general has terrible business skills they put the rude staff and dancers above us the customers they have forgotten that we spend our cash that makes their income maybe we all should boycott the place for a week or two and that might get their attention

Not to totally defend the “rude staff & dancers” but they do have to deal with a lot of people every day, some good, some not so good. I've had to deal with a few retards in there myself. & in case anyone has noticed, the Strip isn’t exactly a lively bar. Most in part, due to the customers. Many a night I have heard the DJ call out at the end of a girls set, calling on the patrons to make a little noise, show the girl some appreciation. & what do we hear ... 1 guy in the back corner. Many nights seem like a party in a morgue. This is one of the sources of the bad attitudes. Also, I have had the pleasure of hearing from many, many girls about how dead it is in the bar, and how they aren't making any money. As the night draws on, some girls actually get rather upset over the repeated rejection and take it personally.

As the customers who control the cash flow into the bar, you also control the atmosphere within. So quit being cheap, get ripped, get some girls naked, and all in all Have a great time.

Quiettype: Believe me I know what you're saying, & I agree. All I'm trying to get at is that it seems many of the dancers don't see it the way we do. That doesn't excuse the way Ginger treated you, not by a long shot. We should all know that some of these girls are a couple of cans short of a six-pack. There's one girl there in particular who's not bad-looking, but she just rubbed me the wrong way the first time we met. It's the same situation as yours, but when I gave her the "not right now, thanks", her response was, "Why are you so negative?" My answer to her was, "Maybe it has something to do with you." I'll be courteous with someone, but if they don't extend the same to me, I'm going to give it back. Just because we don't want a dance, they shouldn't take it personally; unfortunately, some of them seem to.... :(

Well I haven't posted in a while but it seems like my posts regarding customer service a little while ago are starting to gain momentum!!! Great to see guys!

You will notice that the few SP's and MP(A)'s that read our posts and act on them are flourishing with repeat business because of it.

The reason the bar is dead is combination of factors in my opinion but I think it has to do with some of the rude, drunk and/or high dancers there. Walk by the girls washroom on the way to the mens room and take a little sniff...you'll know what I mean...and that's just the stuff that you can smell. I'm quite sure that some of the girls are doing worse. (I've heard from other dancers who I trust)

And what's with the pathetic "Ladies Choice" or whatever they call that sad moment when all the girls go on stage and stand around looking bored...I mean dance provocatively. Oh ya...that'll get the men all riled up waving their hard earned money!!!

Another major factor, IMHO is that the bar takes VERY little initiative to bring in good quality customers. Let's face it, that place is in a pretty shitty part of town...but there's only a few other clubs in the city so why not make some effort to bring people in. It's almost like they've resigned themselves to being a seedy place with just a few dregs as regulars.

Now I know it's easy for me to say all this...especially when weeknights in bars and restaurants and perpetually quiet but my thought is...every little bit helps. If you go from having two solid nights per week to say even three...well you've just increased potential revenues considerably!!! Throw in a few "better-than-they-used-to-be" average nights and everybody is happier.

I'd give the place a bit more of a GOOD sports bar feel. If you've ever been to QB's or Joe Dog's in Burlington you'll know what I mean. I'd try to come up with some different theme nights or whatever...again easy to say...harder to do. Arrange golf tournaments, ski trips, bus trips to sports events...bring in some feature performers, maybe even do some cross promotion with other adult business' in town like the Stag shop or maybe an MP??? Most importantly make sure that the quality of women goes way up and is consistent.

Now that place is never going to work as an "upscale" club but that doesn't mean it can't be something else...that's all I'm saying.

They main thing that has to change is the attitude there. They need to understand that it's their priviledge to have us their spending our money, not a right. The fact is that a fool and his money are soon parted...so make me into a fool for crying out loud. We're men in a bar filled with naked women...it shouldn't be that hard!!!!

To summarize, I don't care what it takes...if it LOOKS and more importantly FEELS like a dive strip club on barton st., it's never going to be anything more.

There...I'm done

Hello, My name is Katie and i am new to TERB. I agree with u that they should do something to bring clients in. My friend works in a club in Kitchener and every monday night they have amateur night. They have amateur girls who want to get started in the business come in and compete. First prize is 1000, second is 350 and third is 100. If a girl wins first place they cannot enter again but if they dont win they can keep coming back to try for the first prize. My friend says the place is packed with men and fresh newbies every monday. She makes sure she works every monday because even for the regular girls it increases their business. They should try something like this! :p

Well I think teh Strip's attitude is summed up by the door: "NO disrespect intended, but no gang colours".

Yikes.

And yes the cattle call ladies choice dance is rather sad looking.

The guy in the back corner clapping is probably me. (I actually got a free lapdance once because I was the only one clapping... The girl came over and asked if I wanted a dance, I got one, and she danced two, saying that since I had clapped the second one was free, Yay for me! ) That was a long time ago though....

Maybe the new furniture is a sign the bar wants to improve... let's hope. It's closer than any of the others.

Of course with all the heat on dancing establishments there is probably a limit as to how hard they can promote and such.

I think from now on I will just answer with a "No thanks, but thanks for asking me. If I change my mind I will track you down and ask you." If they get snotty, just smile and say thanks again and then ignore them.

My View On The Strip

Well I've been going to this place for over 20 years now and it is really starting to get pretty bad.

They finally decide to put in new furniture in the dancing rooms and fix that up a bit, but now the bouncers are in there every 4 to 6 minutes which really puts a damper on the time you spend in there with the dancers.

I myself get very few dances now because for $20 bucks a song the mileage just isn't what it use to be, and I'm not going to pay that kind of money for dances that are half air and not much else.

I usually go in during the afternoons and lately it's been very dead in there and it's always pretty much the same girls which is kinda a drag. They get up on stage walk around a bit and don't even care to smile or do shows like the good old day when they would come up to you and do a nice bend over or these days most won't even lay on stage and show you (well you know).

I'd be surprised to see this place last much longer if this trend continues.

True, there are limits to how much the bar can promote, (in Hamilton) and as for the bouncer checking the vip rooms, that once again is due to the repeated visits from LE & by-law. Hamilton has a serious hard on for SC's and will continue to harrass. As for the "no colours allowd" That goes back some time, It's just a rule the club enforces in order to keep the peace. A few years ago there was a problem brewing, but that has since passed. And along with the new chairs & decor in the vip rooms, take a look down & notice the new carpet as well, changes are coming, slowly but surely. I'd tell ya what the carpet cost, but you'd probably shit if you knew. Just remember one thing, although you pay higher than average for drinks there, many businesses that service a strip club also gouge the club on the mere basis that they are a strip club. So the bar ends up paying much more than the average establishment.

They should spend $ on a smoking room , I'm currently a non smoker and enjoy the air in there now but I can remember times in there enjoying a few cigs with a few beers ,hell there was a time I smoked cigars and thought I was in pussy heaven . Now if you want to smoke you got to get dressed and go outside, I 've been to a few bars in the Miss. area and the smoke rooms there are full of people and that's where the action is . I think that law hurt the Strip . I drove by there in the afternoon and noticed the bilboard above the enterance "wanted dancers", hmmmmm what's this mean ?

Simple it means most of the girls aren't making any money so they are leaving to go dance in other clubs in the region. That's why we are getting the same girls day in and day out.

It would seem the strip needs to start paying the DJ themselves and not put a $40 buck cover charge on freelancers and a $20 buck cover on girls that go on stage.

If the girls aren't making money on dances and they still have to pay the DJ and bar then that just plain sucks :(

Oh and as far as a smoking room goes, it's way to late to ever put one in now. The new bylaws require that it had to have gone in before a specific time, and that time has passed. Oh the smoking rooms in other clubs will soon be making an exit as well and even though those bars spend hundreds of thousands of dollars they are going to be SOL.

If you smoke like I USE TOO then get use to the great outdoors because that's where you are going to have to go.

A little off topic, but I like the no smoking... You don't go home reeking of smoke, just the body spray the girls spray all over themselves....
