I've got to head to Windsor as well. If anyone has a hotel recommendation it would be much appreciated.

If you are staying in Windsor, stay away from the Bestway Motel on Huron Church Line. It is a haven for various six and four-legged critters and often has a funny smell. That is probably attributable to the fact that many use this place for short stays and the place is cheap.

It really depends on what you want in a hotel/motel and where you want to stay - Huron Church Road vs. Downtown. I stay mainly at the ones on H.C. as they are near where I'm doing business.

On Huron Church,

Holiday Inn and Hampton Suites are the better hotels. You'll pay between $130 and $175 a night here. I like the Hampton Inn myself as it has a nice continental breakfast. Both have high speed.

Comfort Inn, Super 8, and Best Western are more moderately priced - all < $100. They provide the basic amentities. Comfort Inn and Super 8 have high speed.

Downtown,

Radisson, Hilton and Quality Suites are the better ones. Prices will be similar to Holiday and Hampton.

I've stayed at the Comfort Suites downtown. It is close to Casino Windsor and is very well priced during the week.

Hope this helps.

Beejay,

I stayed at the Radisson a couple of months ago and wasn't impressed. In the perfect world I need a King Size Bed, decent parking ( Radisson sucks )mini bar, and acccess to porn. What do you recommend downtown ?

someone else can help you out with this. I seldom stay downtown. I do know that the Comfort Suites has a King Size Bed and free parking. It's near the arena and casino. Not much in the way of restaurants around it as I recall.

Six-legged critters include ants, cockroaches and flies. There are other multi-legged critters there including centipedes and spiders.

If I can get the budget it for it, I will stay at the Ramada on Oulette. It is right at the lip of the tunnel, and it has spacious rooms, solid mattress and decent desk/work area. One thing I like about it is the walls are thick. It used to be the Howard Johnson and is an older hotel which means the walls are thicker. This may be a pet peeve of mine, but too many hotel rooms cannot protect you from your neighbour's noise and television let alone the street traffic outside. Surprisingly restful was the EconoLodge on H.C. at a budget rate. Avoid the Radisson in my opinion, the Radisson had a rotting pizza box with a half eaten slice on top the dresser when I checked in there once. Even if you get someone to clean it up, the memory lingers and ruins the comfort level. Ramada has very good service and a very decent on site restuarant coffee shop that was opened 24 hours at one point.

Does anybody plan on attending the superbowl next year? I wonder if it is too early to make reservations for the week long pregame party?

Yes I do and it is to late. Hotels generally allow booking exactly one year in advance.

Superbowl

So are telling me that all the rooms are booked by people or by travel agents? There is a big difference. I was told that they were NOT taking reservations the last time was there, mind you it was after Feb 5th. As I understand it the hotel owner was staking rooms for travel agents who would broker rates depending upon demand at a closer period in time. In effect the rooms were 'booked' but had not a final rate assigned to them, and thus I could not 'jump the que' by reserving myself.

Now, does every hotel in the city do this, what about sleazy flea bags like Traveller's Choice on Sandwich Street, or Diana Motel on Techumseh? What rate did you get or hear about on rooms. Ford Field is so damn close to the tunnel and Windsor, I think many people would choose Windsor hotels over the distant burbs like Troy, Madison Heights and Southfield, but I just wonder about security at the Bridge and tunnel, the terrorist threat may make the easy crossing problematic.
