Let us hope - even if it is against hope - that this election is in fact the first step on a road, however long, to a happier nation, and that the election itself goes off with a minimum of violence.
I couldn't agree more.Drunken Master said:Let us hope - even if it is against hope - that this election is in fact the first step on a road, however long, to a happier nation, and that the election itself goes off with a minimum of violence.
Don't hold you're breath on that one.BiggieE said:At least one more post. If this goes well, then Pres. Bush will be lauded as the man who helped bring Freedom to Iraq..
I knew that before long somebody would post the obligatory "don't trust Aljazeera" sing-song.bbking said:DM why would even bother with those idiots at al-jazerera. Of course they paint a dim picture but as usual for them a small sample of the overall story. CNN is reporting that the interm Government of Iraq is saying that 72% of registered voters have voted. The problem with aljazeera DM is that they are Sunni's and their reporting has always been slanted towards the Sunni cause in Iraq. One other thing, didn't Iraq boot out al-jazeera - if so they are getting this third hand or making it up.
Look as far as I'm concerned this isn't a triumph for Bush and the US it is major triumph by the Iraqi people - why do we have to trash that.
bbk
They have down graded the vote to 60%. IMHO even if 30% turned out it would be a raging success for the Iraqi. How many North Americans would vote under duress of death by snipers, car bombings etc... these people have spunk. No water and little electricity...but lots of spunk.bbking said:real live Iraqi??? mostlikely a Sunni working for that Jordanian terrorists. Look DM this is not a trash Aljazeera, it's just fact - time and time again they support and put a postive spin on Sunni muslim issues while ignoring Shi'ite concerns - they are not welcome in Iran and it's no wonder. As for CNN's reporting, that 72% was a live interview with a Government official.
Anyways your post takes away from the accomplishment of the majority of Iraqs people. I think this is a huge accomplishment considering all the obsticles which they had to overcome. I think thats what we should be supporting.

You should really change your handle to on the the top.onthebottom said:Freedom for the Iraqi people - 1, cynics and terrorist *ssholes - 0
My hat off to the courageous Iraqi people who took the first step in taking back control of their country and lives and the US troops who protected them. For all those who thought democracy in Iraq was "dreaming in Technicolor" - you're wrong again - but then you're used to that.
Here is a news source you should be comfortable with: http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2005/01/30/iraq050130.html

When a man shoots his hateful neighbour in the head, and his kids who are imprisoned in the basement are set free, and the shooter neighbours all come to the courthouse claiming the bad neighbour deserved to be shot in the head, and just look how better of the kids are, how does the judge rule?
Game set match
Did I miss something here? What the hell does this have to do with this thread?Mcluhan said:You should really change your handle to on the the top.

Let's see, so far,......110,000 Iraqis and counting dead!Pete Graves said:Sounds like the left didn't get the bloodbath they were hoping for.
I know bbk. Was just taking exception at the implication that a bloodbath was hoped for on this election day, while ignoring the fact there is an ongoing continuing bloodbath that started from the beginning of the war and shows little evidence of dropping off at present.bbking said:Don't be a silly boy Woody - he's talking about election day.
