Byrd, Boxer, Kenedy and Kerry - what a foursome!

The stupid thing is this is a done deal, why take the airtime for something you're going to loose.

Oh, hey, go for it. I just think you have to carefully pick your battles and this is one where they will gain no political points. In fact, with these four, it looks like an exercise of left and lefter.

I agree..what a stupid battle to pick..it is a no win....

Kennedy = Alcoholic
Byrd = former member of the KKK
Boxer = granola eating California tree hugger and BTW THE richest senator in the USA.

Indeed the trio from hell.

Where's your proof that Byrd was a member of the KKK? Where's your proof that Tom Delay is not a current member of the KKK? Are you somehow infering a conspiracy given that K erry and K ennedy (damn, you just need to come up with one more K somewhere) are voting against God's gift to Republican Secretary of State nominees?

Byrd I knew about but with Delay - it fsquares with some things he has said.

As far as Rice, letting her and the rest of the Administration that the web that they weave will not be left unchallenged is an important point. No adminsitration should think that they can get away with spinning things all the time - this is true for both sides. This administration happens to be the best at it we have ever seen - including Clinton!

Well Don, you've perfectly described the problem faced by compassionate conservatives - how do you give a shit about poverty when you've never seen it except when those commercials about povery in Africa come on and you're just a little late in reaching for the remote control so you don't have to be burdened by the images? How do you give a shit about Africa when you can't even find it on a map? How do you give a shit when the biggest problems in your life are your cappacino machine craps out on Thursdays, your Escalade got scraped in the Wal-Mart parking lot and you can't decide whether to watch American Idol or Amazing Race on Tuesday nights? How do you give a shit when war, to you, means your 5 year old teased the fat kid at school yesterday? How do you give a shit when your world view does not extend beyond a 50th state and a couple of countries really far away that liberals keeping talking about like they should be important but you don't even know where those places are? How can you give a shit when your parents never gave a shit about you except when they left you a bigger portion of their estate than you expected? How can you give a shit when no one in your miserable existence gives a shit about you beyond your ability to make them money?

ok, I'm done my rant now and need to go meditate or something

How poor have you ever been in your life to try to claim superiority based upon experience?

And for you that do not know American politics, Byrd is not going after Rice because she is black. Her bigger problems re race come from certain of her own Republicans. As I recall Byrd was a Colin Powell supporter. I am unaware of his being accused over the last thrity years or so of positioning himself on race rather than power and politics. He's old enough and secure enough to take on the issue and not be seen as racist while he softens her up for the party

implying that because Rice is black that Byrd is holding up the vote is ridiculous.

You know, I honestly hadn't thought of that - that would indeed be a stupid view.

the rest of the post was garbage.

My point was that the rest of the country is not going to hell in a hand basket but I was too tired to fight economic issues with an unarmed man.

I've never been poor. I never claimed superiority. I have seen poverty. I have lived in poverty and I've experienced to a greater degree than a good number of people have. Not that that has anything to do with anything I posted.

I don't understand your post, langeweile.
Why do you think the Senate is there for ratification?
Bewildering post. Totally bewildering.
The invasion of Iraq was a smoke and mirrors charade
from the beginning. Bush is asking for an additional $80Billion this week
for the war in Iraq and Afganastan. Shouldn't his cabinet and staff be held
accountable for that unjust war? How would you feel if one of your relatives
was killed in Iraq? The money spent is the peoples money and the military
is the peoples military. When asked, Bush said he can't remember a
mistake he made.

Republicans have held up votes on a Democrat nominees in the past.
That's what the loyal opposition is supposed to do in a democracy.
Maybe you lived under a communist system too long and don't understand
that those in power are required to explain their decisions and the reasons
for those decisions.

I truly am bewildered by your mind set on these issues.

I wish the conservatives would stop whining and complaining all the time.
It's bad enough we have a sniveling coward as POTUS. Much less this thin
skinned attitude by partisans who think Bush is a war president.
DQ my good friend..you are missing the point.

With all the important issues on the table today, why pick a fight on this? It is useless, her nomination is a done deal.
Hell, Boxer, Kennedy, Kerry and Byrd, don't even have the support within their own party.
I can understand why Boxer is doing it..she needs to be re-elected in the "State of Confusion" (California), so she has to shift to the left.
The rest i don't get.

Pick an issue with more punch. If you want to send a message, have the debatte on the new $80 Billion requested by Bush.

But those spinless cowards won't have the balls to make a stand there, because they know, it could cost them there re-election.

OTB: I think your statement may miss the point that there are indeed serious issues out there and that the adminsitration tends not to listen but rather to dictate. I am not saying that there is not merit to positions it takes, but it has no monopoly on solutions and, as to those matters regarding which the premises are weak or misguided, needs to be slapped up the side of the head.

In an atmosphere in which the two sides tend not to listen to each other's valid concerns and resolve them amicable, this type of thing is increasingly becomeing a evil but neccessary norm.
