:D

While massively successful at the box office 911 failed to influence the election (unless you believe Mooreon who says that the Dems would have lost much worse if Hollywood had not gotten involved) and now the Academy has confirmed this propaganda films' lack of worth. I guess the vote box for Oscar is harder to stuff than the People Choice awards (or the Governors election in Washington for that matter).

I saw 9/11...But what the hell was it. Documentry?? Propaganda?? History movie?? .......ONE mans opinion??

It was more of a pre election bashing. I believe more of these movies will hit the big screen everytime there is an election. I think it will become another place for politician to spread thier stink under the guise of free art expression.
IMHO

Could be your politics (as usual) getting in the way of sound judgment?

Here's one film award that isn't controlled by American advertising dollars.

" 'Fahrenheit 9/11' wins
top honour at Cannes Moore's film first documentary
to win prestigious prize since 1956 "

LOL, that was just a big f*ckyou to the Bush administration. I think Pia Zadora has also won a Cannes award - same league actually.

"However, Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" -- ineligible for a best documentary nomination because the film was not submitted for that category -- was shut out across the board."

Nice try at manipulating the facts, though.
Mooreon didn't submit it for best documentary (perhaps because it wasn't) because he submitted for best film. I've distorted nothing.

Nice try.

Oscar Nominations

Oscar nominations usually don't reflect public taste. More often than not the nominations are obscure political picks and don't care about the general publics taste.
Go back to the top ten grossing movies of all times and see how many have an Oscar??

Are you saying there is a difference between popular and quality?

LOL

I'm quite sure that none of the Governators movies have won - made a pretty penny though.

Closer to the truth is the hatred Hollywood feels for the Passion of the Christ. Some of the less radical Hollywood have referred to Gibson's film as a violent pronography. I suspect that if they couldn't vote for the Passion, it really wouldn't look good to vote for Moore's film. After all Hollywierd is a business.

bbk
Interesting rational, how would you explain the Passion getting three nominations.

I don't want to be the judge of somebody elses taste.

I judge a movie by it's entertainment value. If I go and see a movie i want to be entertained.
If I want to see something depressing I watch the news...

For:

Cinematography (Gibson at least had the sense to hire a brilliant cinematographer)
Make-up ("You know what I think this scene needs? More blood!")
Original Score (Again, Gibson at least has the sense to make up for his appalling lack of talent as a director by hiring talented people)

OTB, I can sense the smug satisfaction oozing out of every pore of your being today. However, I wonder what this does to your assertions of Hollywood being so liberal, unfair and so out of touch with America.

This news did indeed give me a warm feeling all over......... any more smug and I'd be an honorary Canadian today!

He lusted beyond his reach - Best Film. Even the liberal film industry (or would you argue they are fair and balanced LOL) couldn't go that far.

Nice psuedo-recovery combined with anti-Canadian bash. You're a sly boots you are. You must be closely watched.

You're reasoning about the Hollywood liberals is so cunning as to be incomprehensible. Unless of course you're ascribing to the left a degree of sinister Machiavellianism that only Karl Rove can match.

You really want to tell me that those nominations count for anything. This has to be a huge disappointment for Gibson. BTW anyone thinking Moore's film would be up for best film is dreaming. The only award 9/11 could get is best documentry - so I still stand with my original comment, both films were snubbed.

bbk
I guess at least Moore thought he had a shot. I agree on Passion, it was snubbed for best picture - I've not seen many of the nominated pictures so I can't comment on if it was better than those - but it was pretty good.

Moore's crazy. Should not be nominated.

He claimed that one contractor had Bush and the Saudi's doing its bidding. Moore neglected to point out that that contractor had the biggest contract in defense history cancelled by Bush.

Left of right, start with facts. Moore starts with conspiracy theories. (Reminds me of Ranger)
