Just wondering if any of our resident politicos have read Richard Clarke's article in the Jan/Feb Atlantic magazine. It's an imagined history where the author looks back from 2011 at the 2nd wave of attacks against the US. Very interesting - but pretty fucking bleak.

Saw it at Safeway this morning but didn't buy it. I'll have to go pick that up. I can just imagine Clarke's Darth-Vader-like voice talking about all the devastation.

WMDs are going to continue to be a cliché until one goes off in the US, then the sh*t hits the fan for real.

You already had someone use one - anthrax remember.

With pretty chilling effect for as little damage as it did. I'm thinking dirty bomb - radiation has a dramatic place in people's imagination - one dirty bomb in NY and the global economy tanks.

Who is Richard Clarke and why is he important?

Former counter-terrorist czar for Bush, he quit in 2003 and has since been highly critical of the administration. Currently he is chairman of a consulting firm that advises Fortune 500 companies on how to deal with terrorist and cyber threats, which makes me question his motives for writing this book just a bit. Trying to scare up a little business for himself perhaps.

I was'nt referring to his book, but rather his recent article in Atlantic Magazine. You might be right Asterix, but regardless of his motives, it's a good read as it provides some insight into possibilities and consequences that might not be obvious.

Meant to say article, not book. My mistake. His book "Against All Enemies" chronicles the errors he felt the US made which led to 9/11.
