I think Rush, Sean Hannity.... are so popular because there was, until pretty recently, a huge audience that was underserved. If you're liberal you're very comfortable listening to NPR, PBS, CBS, reading the NY Times....... Rush hit a growing market with a message that resonated. Insult him all you like (I think he's boring), talk about how popularity doesn't equal quality (reality TV leaps to mind) but at the end of the day, just like our democracy, the people decide - Rush is in, Al isn't.

Excellent statement DQ - I am pretty right Republican but was hoping to get Kerry in - that Bush would be elected given his personal history is nothing short of shocking. The US has really lost its way - and the lack of education and awareness that led to the US introspection on this election and others is surprising. Other countries are larger than the US, when I meet people in Russia, China or India or Brasil, they understand about the rest of the world and important issues - I cannot understand how the US population can be so ignorant of the world, or themselves. IT is the most technologically advanced, powerful country on earth, and yet its population is less informed than the Russians under Solviet media control.
