I really liked how the movie Team America delt with the political movie stars, had them as part of the Film Actors Guild or FAG for short. Very funny stuff - that and MM being a suicide bomber - we could only hope.

Actors telling folks to vote worked in the US. There were inspirational and deserve some credit for Bush being re-elected.

Pops,

I think you're right, I'd still like to find a "Shut up and sing" button. I also think MM pissed people off and that helped W as well. MM wrote an oped that the Dems need to embrace Hollywood more so they can learn to tell their story (and that W would have won by more without the help Kerry got). I can only hope they take this approach!

I have no issues with actors or singers being politically activ. it has been a tradition ever since Woodstock and probably earlier. Just stop pretending that you speak for everybody.

Originally posted by yychobbyist Except of course when it's Dennis Miller, Morgan Fairchild or Ron Silver or someone else who's Republican? And what of Arnie - king of the Austro-Cali cartel?
Ron Silver and Morgan Fairchild - talk about the B team, I'd prefeer Charlton Heston!

Arnie does rock, that boy has some serious stones (that State of the State speach was priceless). You know your good when you can get elected in a state you can't pronounce!

I do think so OTB - I mean, after all, all the best skin care products are made in France and we know no good self respecting Republican would ever buy anything French these days.

There are more conservatives, not necessarily Republicans, in Hollywood than one might think. Most of them choose to stay quiet and away from politics, because some of the money boys in Tinseltown, are on the left.

Streisand, Redford, Garofolo, Depp and the rest of the hysteric left, gets all the spotlight and does all the talking.

Now why is it necessary to call them the "hysterical (I'm assuming you made a typo) left" instead of just "the left"? This is what I just don't understand - call them left, call them liberal but why the need for adjectives? I think the use of these adjectives by members of both the right and the left do nothing but get in the way of the quality of the argument you present.

Remember when George Clooney spoke out about the Paparazzi when Diane died? He will look foolish when they discover it was a hit by the Crown.

BTW - Gere did give me a call ... my last name is "World."

YYC,

Agree on adjectives - they don't often apply (MM might be an example of when they do).

Oh MM is a passing fad. 5 years from now he'll be doing Celebrity Family Feud and no one will remember who he was.

I usually don't call everybody that is on the left hysterical. There is some very smart people on both side.
The word hysterical points specifically do the Hollywood leftist. It just makes my skin crawl if one of those Hollywood elitist pretends to be for the working man and an advocate of the poor. While munching on a $100 dollar burger, wearing $1000 shoes and driving a car for over $100000.
I am not envious, if you have the money enjoy it, good for you. But don't go around and demand that the goverment should do more. In the end if the goverment does more, the money ultimately comes out of my pocket.
If you own millions a few thousand less won't hurt. if you middle class and have a family to raise, a few hundered less hurt.

So my advice to the Hollywood hysterical left is. If you are really so concerned about the poor, why don't you just give 50% of your wealth to the poor? You might have to live on $10MM instead of $20MM, that's all.
