Well it was on TSN that a young girl lost her life when a puck hit her in the head at the Columbus Blue Jacket game! She was only 13 and her birthday was to be on wednesday! I have been to a few games in my years and seen some people been hit but this a first for the NHL and i think that with the new sticks and seeing glass shatter that they should look into the safety of fans behind the nets and maybe put some kinda netting above the end glass! to protect the fans, anyone care to comment on this tragedy!

saw this on ESPN, I must say I'm shocked that this could happen, considering the normal height of the glass, I wouldn't think that a puck would have the velocity to be lethal since it should be coming down before it could hit anyone. I think what needs to be done is actually ascertain what height of glass is needed to make sure noone can be hit directly by a shot. I don't see nets helping that much.

My condolences to the girl's family.

This was a total freak accident though. I wouldn't change anything. The NHL thinks this is the first time ever that a fan has been killed at one of their games.

While some fans have been killed elsewhere in minor league contests, there is little one can do besides putting a huge dome over the ice, à la Get Smart.

hockey accident

Very unfortunate incident!
when attending any kind of sport that involves a hard object travelling at high speeds, one must always pay attention to the game!!! I know I may sound harsh but playing both hockey and lacrosse most of my life I've seen many injuries in the stands!my friends sister was struck with a puck under the eye and till this day has lost part of her vision!!People attend these games and just dont pay attention! ,in no way am I blamming this young girl for not paying attention!!,,,maybe she was?,! no nets is due to the fact people pay large prices for their tickets and really dont want a net obstructing their view,Of course only in the NHL no nets are used, maybe they will now? but I doubt it!!
They do warn the fans before a game to pay attention!maybe they should pass a law? anyone under 16 has to wear a helmut and face mask to attend a game?especially if the seats are behind the net over the glass!Poor thing her 14th birthday was tomorrow! cant understand why they didnt take her to the hospital after she was hit???Iheard they looked at her at the rink thought she was o.k but in the middle of the night they rushed her to the hospital??

The really freakish thing here is that the puck went off another fan. Unfortunately, I don't see how you can guess that a puck may hit you when it is bouncing all over the place and then still carries enough force at the end to kill you.

that puck is cold and rock hard!and when shot at nearly 100 mph you 'd be suprised how hard it can hit, even if its bounced off something or someone!!,mind u this is a 13 yr old that was struck!

Wanting to deliver the 'goods'
In the right spot

it doesn't take a lot of force to burst a blood vessel that then leads to internal bleeding and pressure on the brain.

We may never know the full story. The last I heard the family had requested the hospital not release any information aside from the her death.

Very sad, but a freak accident.

I guess it's preventable with higher glass, which is what makes people think.

Was watching a news clip the other night, apparently, every year in canada, 10,000 people die from improperly prescribed medication, or a reaction to medication that the doctor didn't think of.

Blah blah blah.

Makes you think though, should gov't devote resources to study 1 unfortunate soul at a hockey game, or 10,000 who get smoked by the wrong medication.

????

Just a counter thought
