I'm not a hard core gamer at all, and have always like the "look" of Playstations (especially now with it's smaller form factor).

So what happens? My gf gives me an xbox for Christmas today. While I was excited, I kinda wanted a PS2. She says she has no problem exchanging it if I so wish. But she said everyone told her of the Xbox's better graphics. That it was the more advanced system by far.

So my question is, which console is better for me. I'd play a few FP shoot em up type games (she got me Halo2 as well). But my interest would be car simulation, golf, and some martial arts type games. I really wonder how much I'd actually use the console to be honest.
Are the graphics night and day between the two consoles? Are there that many more titles on PS2?

the hobby needs more capitalism
Stay with the xbox.

It's much better in terms of technology and yes, the ps2 has a larger library of games but the ones that count (ie. EA sports,
Grand Theft Auto, etc.) are multi-platform. Which means they're out for both XBOX and PS2.

If you're a big home theater buff, the xbox also supports natively widescreen (and most games coming out for it now do as well), almost every game is in dolby digital 5.1 and 480p. A small handful support 720p.

I'm a huge gamer (I have all three consoles) and if I had to choose one, I'd pick the xbox.

Cheers,

XBOX

You can install a 'mod chip' in the XBOX and a large hard drive to store games rented from your favorite video store and then copied to the new hard drive.

Mod chip upgrade is $ 60.00 - $ 100.00 depending on the # of chips required.

Enjoy

I talked to the repair man, and the playstation breaks way more often then xbox. The lens is weak. Even the ones that are not moded still break down. Knowing Microsoft they will be catching up with the games big time. This is one example where Japan is not better.

refund the xbox and get 2 gamecubes, and give one to your gf. That way your gf will be entertained when u are not around and she won't stray into the arms of another.

The lens is weak ?

are you saying the laser alters the optical properties of the glass to make it less transparent or alters the focal properties of the lens ?

glass is glass.

There is a plastic gear mechanism within the PS2 that is prone to wear that causes the laser tracking problems. If there is some wear you can realign the laser assembly by adjusting the gear but this only goes so far as the gear continue to wear.

Actually Joebear the PS2 lens is indeed actually thinner and not as well made as the lens of the Xbpx system.. I have Xbox, sp1, sp2 & game cube. This has been proven time and time again.. If you do some looking up over the net, you will find some of this info....

I completely agree will DJK....

so what is the lens is thinner, does it break or are the optical properties changed ?

I googled it. In PS1 and early PS2 the laser would die out or become weak enough for the data not to be read properly.

It has nothing to do with the lens, RETARD.

Don't give up your X-Box. Sure PS2 has more games and thats because PS2 came out over a year before X-Box. All the top games are on both systems, but I find that X-Box has more Tom Clancy games (ie Splinter Cell, Rainbox 6: 3) as well as better graphics and it is a more powerful system.

I heard X-Box now has more licenses and overall I think it's a better system, especially since they re-designed that controller about a year ago. If you get a PS2 you might as well buy one. Don't make the mistake of choosing PS2 over an X-Box.
