I got PS2 last year and I've been happy with it. If I were to do it again, I'd probably go XBox just b/c my friends have it and it's my perception that XBox has better online capability. For some reason I also have the perception that XBox has more new games, but that being said I've never not been able to find what I want for PS2.

Here is my gatherings of the 3 since I'm looking at getting an X-Box, but I've been researching.

X-Box - Better online capabilities, more adult (M) or teen related games. It's the only console with Halo. Stores music via the hard drive so you can listen to tunes while playing a game. Must buy X-box live to get online.

PS2 - A little cheaper than X-Box, a few exclusives like GTA-San Andreas. Ok, online capabilities but you need an adapter. Plays cd's.

Game Cube - A lot cheaper only $119.00 with Maria Double Dash, the new one comes with 2 controllers, a lot of kidesque games and the only console to have "Mario" type games. NO online capabilities at all. Doesn't play DVD's.

The new PS2 has the network card built in..... plus the online service is free. if you are concerned about the online ability then maybe do some research on that as most games are available on both platforms as well as the fact that the XBox2 that is being looked at by developers may not be backward compatiable as it runs on the PPC chip set not the intel.
i am sure either platform will be enjoyable.

Don't choose a console based on what's "better", choose it based on what you'll actually use it for and what games you'll actually play. Buy it for your own benefits and not the features. Would you buy a Ferrari that can do 300kph when living in Toronto you only realistically drive 120-140kph at most?

PS2, X-Box, or GC ???

Just as in the last post, first determine the kind of games you like and wanna play (racing, fighting, action/adventure, sports etc). There's no point getting the most powerful system if the games don't interest you.

That being said, I would lean towards a PS2 or an X-Box. The PS2 is less powerful, but it can play DVD's right out of the box, unlike X-Box, where you need a seperate adaptor for that. Also the newer PS2's come with the network adaptor built in. X-Box does have better graphics and a HD advantage.

Most of the games that appear on X-Box will appear on PS2, and vice versa, with the exception of a few exclusives like Halo, GTA, and Metal Gear Solid. If any of these exclusives is the deciding factor, than go with that system.

My Favourite: The PS2.

Being a gamer for so long and had both the PS2 adn x-box, i really liked my x-box and gave away my PS2 (it was just gathering dust). Graphics are superior and almost no loading times. The DVD playback is also better than the PS2 (although, i heard the new, thinner version of the PS2 has progressive scan). My one and only complaint about the x-box is the controller. Not very comfortable and rather ackward, especially if you have small hands. Just my (influential) two cents. :)

I can't wait for the new systems to come out, been waiting 5 long years.

re:playstation 2

K here is my point of view. I have playstation 2 and my friend had xbox a few years ago. He wasn't happy that he couldn't play certain games like vice city and grand turismo etc. He actually traded the xbox for the playstation and took the lost and never regretted it. Xbox from what I saw had better graphics, and the loads were quicker. If u'd ask me which one I'd get, I'd have to say playstation 2 still. There are more games and if u have the mod chip you're rolling in games. Also, there is no fees for playing online. The only thing that sucks for playing online is that u need the original game. I figure that there is only a few games that i'd wanna play online anyways so it's not a big deal. Overall, It's been 3 years since i bought my playstation and I have no regrets with it. I don't crave the xbox and won't buy as prices continue to drop on it as well. However, as someone said earlier pick the system that has the games you want to play. All the game systems are good but it really has to do with personal preference.

Do you have one of the original controllers? Cause they redesigned them, eh?

well if you get a mod chip for Xbox, you're rolling in the games even more....a friend of mine has his customized and it contains NES, SNES, Genesis, N64 emulators as well as the hard drive can store about 8 Xbox games...even though I own both, I use the Xbox way more...I only have ps2 for 2 games, San Andreas (which will in all likelihood be released for Xbox at some point) and winning eleven soccer because FIFA is utter trash...

Ross: I have both old and newer version and it still sucked.

Guys, moding your x-box is way better than moding the PS2. First of all, yo can install a huge HD in it, as big as you want. It can store movies too and with the mod chip, you can copy any game. No need to buy some burnt copy(some of which don't even work) from pacific mall. Just rent the game that you want to play load it on and return it the next day.
