get legal advice
get legal advice.
if you cannot afford to pay a lawyer, look up the law students at the university of toronto. they run a legal clinic called 'downtown legal services'. though they are not 'lawyers', imho they do a better job than most legal aid lawyers as they are committed to winning ... they have the time and energy to devote themselves to YOU, rather than most legal aid lawyers with revolving doors that will probably just plead you out.
you will not get legal aid, as it is unlikely that you will recieve a jail sentence if convicted.
if you do not have a criminal record, more than likely you will be offered 'diversion' if you admit responsibility for the offence. with diversion, the charges are withdrawn once you complete a short course which basically documents the societal ills created by prostitution. the 'diversion' will be on your record ... you can only obtain 'diversion once ... you will not need to tell employers about this ... it is not a criminal record.
you do not have to accept diversion. you have the right to have a trial. i suggest that you wait to get your 'disclosure' package from the court before you agree to accept diversion. basically the disclosure is the evidence that the crown will rely on to make its case. they have to prove the elements of the offence beyond a reasonable doubt ...
no one will call your wife or your employer.
make sure you attend all scheduled court appearances! otherwise you will be charged with failure to attend court ... that just makes matters worse.
other recommendation - delete the info on your thread about the particulars about the offence (date, time) ... if LE does read this board, i would not want to bring attention to myself if i was you.
hope this helps.
