Polls like these are almost impossible to answer since there are so many different styles and it is impossible to compare them. It's almost like comparing athletes between different sports - asking who was a better athlete - Barry Bonds, Jaromir Jagr, or Vince Carter?

Anyway they sure are fun to debate about so I'll take a stab at a few great rock drummers:

Neil Peart (Rush)
Scott Rockenfield (Queensryche)
Vinne Paul Abbott (Pantera)

being a drummer I just have to reply...

Vinnie Colaiuta...plays for Sting, used to be with Zappa

Dennis Chambers...an absolute "madman"..plays with John Schofield, Steely Dan, played with Parliament...to name a few

The absolute KING OF KINGS bar none !!! is Stewart Copeland (The Police) I've been copping his licks for 20 years, and he still kicks my ass...the most original freaking drummer in the last 50 years.

Phil Collins / Chester Thompson...a tie, those Genesis concerts I went to as a kid made me a drummer.

Bob C. Benberg ...played for Supertramp. Not the greatest but, man what feel...

Mick Fleetwood...Fleetwood Mac, another great feel player

Terry Bozio (Zappa, Missing Persons) / Steve Smith (Journey, Jazz, Latin, and fusion master) / "Great" Bob Scott (of the former Toronto band "Look People" /

being a drummer the list goes on, and on...oh yeah, after 25 years of playing, I'm pretty damn good myself, but even though I have about 8 cds to my credit, I really don't belong on this list....yet.

I'm surprised that you're the first to mention Terry Bozio! I saw Bozio playing with Jeff Beck perhaps six years ago at Canada's Wonderland and he was simply incredible!

Well, I gotta agree with Peart and Bruford as far as Prog Rock goes.........Bonzo and Moon are legends with unique styles............and yes, Copeland is superb. I've seen Bozzio with 3 different acts and he never dissappoints. Check out his recent work with Steve Stevens. But no mention of Billy Cobham?

Gene Krupa, without a doubt. He was a trailblazer. The drummers of the rock era have acknowleged his contribution to the art and to their subsequent careers.

well, a lot of good drummers have been mentioned, but i would probably throw my lot in with Elvin Jones, who was the main drummer with John Coltrane's quartet. he could certainly put a lot of the rock/pop drummers to shame ....
