Bill Maher Makes Homophobic Joke About Lindsey Graham And "Dead Boyfriend" John McCain

HBO host Bill Maher made a homophobic joke on Friday against Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and the late Senator John McCain, suggesting that Graham "needs the stabilizing inflence of his dead boyfriend."

"You know what’s bad is this Trumpifying of people," Maher quipped. I mean, the fact that Trump can either find people like him or make them … Lindsey Graham needs the stabilizing influence of his dead boyfriend because he is just …"

Maher, a "blood oath" sex club enthusiast, also joked during his monologue that Graham escaped from the two women who ambushed Senator Jeff Flake in an elevator on Friday because he was "familiar with the back door."

My take is that he’s a flakey, more partisan, low-rent version of McCain (without the backbone) so he will happily jam his tongue up Trump’s keister when needed. Didn’t know he was gay until this thread. That might make for interesting confirmation hearings if he’s promoted after the mid-terms.

Lindsey Graham has been a consistent opponent of everything from marriage equality to protecting LGBT workers from employment discrimination.

Graham has consistently opposed efforts to protect LGBT workers from employment discrimination, saying that doing so would be “moving an agenda” that he did not support. He voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

In other words, he is just another self loathing, closet hypocrite gay person who has found a home in the new right. Can’t wait for a future confirmation hearing when some young Congressional intern steps forward to disclose an inappropriate touching! In Canada, the CPC is full of them: Kenney, Baird, and all the “single white men” like Wright, Novak, who surrounded Harper (who might have swung both ways once with Charles McVety... LOL!)

So the actual thread title should be Bill Maher makes Homophobic remark.
It's a ok to make homophobic remarks, if those are aimed at conservatives.

Well, you left out an important distinction: aimed at conservative hypocrites. IF Graham is gay, then his anti-gay stances are kind of conflicted... agree? At the very least, he should come out of the closet which would give his anti-gay stances some credibility. Eg: he could say “I am gay but I do not think my rights need protecting.”

For me I do not care if he is gay but I find the comments by Maher a little out of line in today's climate. If this was in the NHL and caught on video he would have to do sensitivity training and maybe sit out a few games. I do not like anybody's sexual orientation made fun of.

I'm sure there is an appropriate way to mock that particular bit of human weirdness along with all the others, but we certainly haven't found it yet. But better if the failed attempts are made in public and talked about, than secretively with shared leers and winks, among resolute 'never gon' evolve, not me' types.

Even it this were true, how does it change the fact it was a homophobic remark, further what gives anyone a right to force another person to come out?

This is liberal hypocrisy at its worst: I dislike your views, hence I have the right to harass and attempt to out you.
Now mind you if some right of center group did this to them, this would be denounced as harassment of the worst type.

Yeah, every single liberal behaves exactly like that. And no right of centre group ever does, although you know precisely what would be said by those liberals if they did.

It might help your critique land more usefully if you found a less bigoted way to express it.

Well, Maher did get fired when he tried to comment on 9/11 (actually did a poor job of plagiarizing someone else’s remarks). So he does NOT get away with saying anything. And c’mon people -with an idiotic President who tweets like he has Tourette’s of the fingers, the standard of conduct is pretty damn low.

When it comes to media... and attacks through it, there is no comparison. Its obvious who its run by. The attacks are on Trump, Kavanaugh, Sean Spicer, Sarah Saunders, Mike Pence. Its obvious, and blatant.
Kathleen, you forgot one adjective: "justified".

while others like Mazie Hirono are pointing a finger at 'old white men in congress' and telling them to shut up.
By the way Senator Hirono was a protege of Senator Inouye, who was accused by scores of women of sexual harassment, behaviour Mazie Hirono has never condemned either at the time or now.

Where are the Republicans who burst into restaurants during the Clinton or Obama Administrations and harassed Democratic Representatives or Senators? Or the Republican Members of Congress who said that members of those administrations should be harassed, particularly during family time.

I do agree with you, but Trump is but one man. Who on the right, or on the Republican side is doing the same as him? The party is being civil, far from what you see from many of the Democrats like Waters, and Pelosi.

When it comes to media... and attacks through it, there is no comparison. Its obvious who its run by. The attacks are on Trump, Kavanaugh, Sean Spicer, Sarah Saunders, Mike Pence. Its obvious, and blatant.
The entire GOP enables Trump. So they are far from innocent bystanders and are complicit in Trump’s behaviour.

And please. Enough “victimhood” talk. If the GOP would stop enabling Trump, then there would be 1/2 of the Trump 24/7 coverage of every stupid utterance or tweet or non-Presidential behaviour. Given his conduct, I think the media has done a terrible job by reporting on the trivial day to day insanity vs a deeper dive into the Trump family’s enrichment and corruption while in office.

Wouldn’t you first have to come up with a reason to do this? You’re trying to create an equivalency which simply does not exist. There has never been an Administration like this and that is not “fake news”. And you conveniently forget that Clinton WAS impeached.
