Toronto City Councillor gets salty as poll shows him lagging Toronto Staff

Sep 28, 2018 11:46 am

A new poll shows City Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti lagging behind Anthony Perruzza in his ward, and the city councillor is not happy about it.

According to Mainstreet Research, if an election were held today, Mammoliti would be defeated.

“Doug Ford stands to lose one of his biggest allies on City Council if the election were held today,” said Quito Maggi, President and CEO of Mainstreet Research. “As it stands right now, Giorgio Mammoliti would be one of the big-name casualties in the new 25 ward city council.”

And of course, the outspoken councillor didn’t let this go without sharing his own thoughts.

“Main Street who? Oh, you mean the lefty, not known polling company?” said Mammoliti on Twitter. “I have seen three polls as of yesterday and they all have me winning.”

It’s unclear which polls he is referring to.

As for the Mainstreet poll, among decided and leaning voters, Perruzza had 30.2% support and Mammoliti is tied with former public school trustee Tiffany Ford with 21.1% support. Recent provincial Liberal candidate Deanna Sgro had 17.2%.

In Scarborough-Agincourt, Jim Karygiannis has a 3.3% lead over Norm Kelly among decided and leaning voters. Karygiannis has 47.3% while Kelly comes in with 44%, according to the poll.

Meanwhile in Toronto Centre, Kristyn Wong-Tam leads with 44% support among decided and leaning voters. Former Liberal cabinet minister and 2010 mayoral candidate George Smitherman comes in with 27.7% support, and incumbent Lucy Troisi has 7.7% support while Walied Khogali has 3.5%.

Turning to Beaches-East York, former MP Matthew Kellway has a solid lead with 56.3% of decided and leaning voters. Challengers Diane Dyson and David Del Grande have 7.4% and 7.5%.

Maggi said that the high number of undecided voters places caution on these early numbers.

“It’s not surprising the see such a high undecided rate for councillor races at this stage of the game, so it is too early to make hard conclusions on who is going to win on October 22,” said Maggi.

“That said, our polling shows that Mamolitti, Di Giorgio, Smitherman, and Norm Kelly have some work to do if they want to be elected in less than a month’s time.”

Mammoliti has been making a name for himself even abroad.

Just over a week ago, British comedian Ricky Gervais responded to the Toronto city councillor’s tweet about religion.

“End attack on Christians and other faiths,” wrote Mammoliti at the time. “Voters should ask candidates whether they believe in a God and support those who DO. The lack of religious values in politics is why our children are killing each other. Religion and politics DO MIX. Let’s drive the devil out of Toronto!”

In response, Gervais, who has over 13 million followers, shared his thoughts when it came to religion and violence.

“Exactly,” he wrote back to Mammoliti. “People who believe in a god are never violent. That’s why there are no religious people in prison.”

If that bozo does not get re-elected then all of the people who complained about the seat reduction will owe Ford an apology.

22 less seats is worth having this dip-shit out of the game.

I could almost agree with you on that last, but not when you attach it to apologizing to that anti-democratic dip-shit (your word). He's the one who owing the mea culpas.

Mammoliti is a fucking yahoo.

(And I find it funny when he talks about "lefties" because his only claim to fame was being a union organizer and was in fact a member of the NDP for years.)

The guy is further proof that all it takes to have success in life is to have a big mouth.

You'd hafta believe success is having half a City mocking and despising you, for that to be true.

Looks like the reduction of council is going to rid Toronto of a lot of dysfunctional dip-shits on both sides of the political spectrum.

That will be a win for all taxpayers in the city.
