Colin Kaepernick Named Face of Nike's 30th Anniversary of 'Just Do It' Campaign

Nike selected former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as the face of its "Just Do It" campaign, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Darren Rovell of ESPN reported the choice of Kaepernick, who started the movement to kneel during the United States national anthem to protest racial injustice in August 2016.

One presumes that Nike has done the math, and that they don't care about lost sales. I'm certain that New Balance and Reebok aren't complaining.

You mean the increased revenue and PR boost?

They are not a stupid company. They did their research and know that this is a win for them.

Nike sell their brand globally, and so Kaepernick will help their cause as they think that Trump is a joke!!

Hilarious how the Trumptard Cult Followers are religiously following that idiot's stance, who is a Treacherous Traitor to Canada. I like the vast majority of Canadians are already boycotting all American made groceries and other related products. We will now be making an exception to Nike, as they stand with Canada against that trade enemy called Trumpty Dumpty. Anyone who stands against our ally like Nike are anti-Canadian.

He is considered manna from heaven in Russia and a veritable, shit-tsunami of manure throughout the rest of the universe.

I am guessing that Nike thinks they will sell more sneakers with CK as their spokesperson than with an NFL player who opposes the "take a knee campaign" and openly praises Trump. Come to think of it, I don't think there ARE any NFL-ers in that second category, are there?

Injecting divisive politics into corporate marketplace. Yeah, that will end well. Might as well short Nike.

Presumably that is what they think. Whether they will be proved to be correct is an other question.

As for myself New Balance!

Businesses are free to conduct themselves and make the rules.

If Nike wants this representation so be it. Personally I'm never swayed by endorsements from celebrities so this will have no effect on me. They can chose to use him and attract a demographic as they see fit.

But remember this argument is the SAME one for the NFL NOT to allow the kneeling as it's against their branding and demographics.

This is different.
Uneducated, angry, middle aged white males who happen to be the Trump demographic likely aren't anywhere near the Nike demographic.
Total win for Nike.

So the NFL has suffered a real hit, but Nike may not.

But what the heck as the NFL has a real problem just dismiss it as "Uneducated, angry, middle aged white males." Even if that is untrue.
