and Manafort is convicted on 8 counts of fraud etc on the same day. Four days after Donald Trump said "He happens to be a very good person, and I think it's very sad what they've done to Paul Manafort."

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, agreed to plead guilty on Tuesday to eight charges related to tax fraud, excessive campaign contributions, making false statements to a financial institution, and unlawful corporate contributions at a court hearing in New York on Tuesday.

Two of those charges appear to relate to Trump directly. Cohen admitted on Tuesday to making payments to two women at the direction of an unidentified candidate for political office. Those payments, Cohen said, were made to influence the outcome of the election.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNBC.

Cohen had surrendered to the FBI on Tuesday afternoon. The president's former confidant came under investigation by federal prosecutors in New York City earlier this year after they received a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Prosecutors had been eyeing Cohen's business dealings for months, and in April seized thousands of items from Cohen's New York office and hotel room. The New York Times reported Sunday that federal authorities were looking into $20 million in loans for taxi businesses owned by Cohen and his family.

Just because Trump surrounded himself with convicted felons, Flynn, Manafort, Gates, Cohen, Papadopolous thus far, doesn't mean he engaged in illegal criminal activities himself.

Cohen's plea doesn't in itself constitute evidence against Trump. Trump is entitled to his own trial - or impeachment hearing, as you will. But it means that Cohen is now a compellable witness against Trump and it ensures that Cohen's evidence must surely implicate Trump, unless Cohen perjures himself.

Cohen's wife is Ukraine-born. And they have a daughter together. I wonder what security measures are in place for him and the family. I think the trump plus russian connection makes them totally fair game for putin to take out or at least blackmail.

Oh c'mon! That's like saying just because he relied on flakes like Omarosa and Giuliani he's not a flake.

But it sure does seem like Trump was a co-conspirator in committing federal criminal offences.

Co-conspirator .... has a nice and deja vu like ring to it, doesn't it?

I think he's done at this point. It's just a matter of drawing the noose tighter.

It'll spin into the fall elections, help give the Dems both houses and then the impeachment will be inevitable.

Did you notice that just after Cohen's admission under oath that he committed federal criminal offences "in coordination and at the direction of Donald Trump", the torrential rains engulfing Toronto suddenly stopped and then a rainbow appeared under a beautiful and blue sunny sky.

But I bet it is still raining a torrent of tears for the likes of Butler, Bud, jcpro, smallweiner and the rest of the boo-hoo-hoo crew.

Really?

If he is hauled out tomorrow Pence is President.

All that matters is Hillary Clinton IS NOT the president.

And now the two parties will continue to tear each other apart.

And the guy in my Signature has a real shot.

However, be careful what you wish for. That gives you President Pence and a Vice-President chosen by the President under the 25th Amendment.

Further if President Tump is not convicted, he may well decide not to stand for reelection, in which case presuming the Republican Party doesn't pull a Hubert Humphrey - it is a clean slate in 2020.

Pence - although no genius and a religious wackjob - will not fuck around with tariffs and screw with the WTO. Win.

I realize there is a great deal of anti-Trump sentiment on TERB, to the point that pointing out anything that doesn't agree with that is seen as support for everything he does.

But come on folks this is not armed robbery at the corner convenience story. Think about this rationally, do you actually believe that a non-disclosure agreement with accompanying payment will result in the conviction of President Trump?

It resulted in the conviction of Cohen.

No, but conspiring with his personal attorney with corrupt intent to effect the outcome of the 2016 election by committing campaign finance law crimes X2 is at the least enough to be named an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Special Counsel's report to the Deputy AG.

A criminal conspiracy and coverup.
