Angus Reid actually says: "Immigration in Canada: Does recent change in forty year opinion trend signal a blip or a breaking point?" and their numbers say only about "…[h]alf of Canadians (49%) say that the 2018 target of 310,000 is too high."

Well more then 49% of Canadians are pretty dumb and Trudeau only needs 38%. We need immigrants and a population of 100M people in the longer run.

Which is silly because that number was worked out as the optimum immigration figure for economic development by the MEI.

There is no way job creation will grow like that & we do not want to bring in people if they will not be productive and will require financial assistance

The exact number is not important, but the idea is. Our population is rapidly aging and we need immigrants to keep the social safety net going because the locals aren't having kids or not having enough.

Technology changes are going to impact employment levels & in ways you can not begin to imagine
A hundred years from now there may not be enough jobs to support our current population
Triple the population & you will have tens of millions who are unable to work & be productive

Pretty much applicable to any country,not just Canada.
Automation and artificial intelligence has disrupted or starting to disrupt employment in many vocational fields beyond manufacturing.
