Hi all....

I'm off to Rome tomorrow and thought I would see whether the combined wisdom on this board has any suggestions as to "entertainment ideas" or sights worth seeing.

I'm taking "the warden", and with her in tow, who knows if I'll have the time or opportunity, but I doubt I'll be back there again soon, so I thought it was worth asking.

Any input is welcome....grazie & ciao

As this applies to the entire spectrum of services (hell....even real "sights"), I wasn't sure where to ask the question, so my apologies if this is the wrong area on the board...

Fred, please feel free to move this if you feel it is warranted.

Rome!

You may just have to walk the Via Venetto with the wife and be careful of whiplash!
Let her shop while you stay outside and watch the passing parade of some of the worlds most beautiful women!
Your dreams just might take the "warden" to heaven on your return to the hotel room! The ladies of Rome can arouse you in a trice just for the looking!

Willywants (to go back!)

Ahh Roma - in all her splendour!

You'll find lots to see & do. I would recommend paying for a guided tour of the Forum - you'll get a lot more out of it that way. Don't worry if the tour moves fast because you can always go back to the sites that interest you the most. The Forum really was the birthplace of democracy with an elected senate so it's quite interesting to actually be there. Remember to watch the movie Gladiator when you come back to see a CG recreation.

An interesting day trip is to take the train to Assisi. The Franciscan monks have a nice monastary there and the town is both quiet and quaint.

Take cabs and talk to the drivers. Some of them are really quite nice and if you find the right one, he'll take you the ancient Via Appia. Around Rome, the ancient portion of this street is private and you're not really supposed to go there. But like I said, find the right cabbie and you'll be there.

Do also see the ancient baths at Caracalla and of course, the Vatican. You'll find many many many churches & cathedrals in Rome. Try to hit the bigs ones at least. (Santa Maria Maggiore was a favourite of mine.) The Vatican will take several hours to see. Take your time - lots of the major artworks are housed here. Take lots of film / camcorder tapes with you too. My favourite in the Vatican is the Hall of Maps. The only unfortunate part of this is that most of the splendour is on the ceiling, so your neck gets kinda sore!

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. Have fun!

La Dolce Vita

My favorite spots in Roma.

My favorite place for girl watching in Rome is the Piazza Navona. It's an elongated square with three spectacular fountians commemorating the Greek antiquities. Best of all, no cars are allowed there. I can sit in one of the rustic caffe's, sip my Frascati vino and watch the flower of Roman womanhood cross my path.
Don't forget to smile.

Then I'll ask one of the bella signiorinas if she'd like to join me for a spontino. We'll hop on my Vespa and make the short trip to Trastevere and order an artichoke hearts pizza at a local trattoria.
We'll order another bottle of Frascati and end our meal with a cool lemon granita.

We'll go shopping in the Old City (wot wont haggle) and we'll end the day at the Piazza Del Poeti (Poets Square) listening to the street musicians. The local Inn and square was a favorite hangout of Keats, Shelley and Byron hence the name. Just in front of us are The Spanish Steps and we contemplate making the trip up that hill. We decide instead to go back to the allbergo and expend our energy in a more pleasureable manner.

Aldo - The Roman Celt who wishes that all cars were banned from the inner city. Then it would trully be paradise.

Geez, I thought the guy wanted TERB type info. I spent a week in Italy two years ago. I was also with the wife, so had limited opportunity to explore the scene. I had only one experience. Every town has street girls and most are African. If you want slightly better quality check the papers in the classifieds. Helps if you read a bit of a Italian of course.

My one experience was on the overnight train from Firenze to Nice. Train stopped in a bunch of small places and at each the Pros would get on to solicit business. They ride the line all night, in more ways than one. I had given up the space in our cabin to an old lady who shared it with my wife, and spent the whole trip in the lounge car or in the aisle of the train talking to Stephano, and Italian soldier I met on the train. We got to drinking, and pretty soon were daring each other to each take a girl. Italian men seem to love anal sex, and Stephano went crazy over a slim little Ethiopian who whispered to him that she loved getting fucked in the ass. I took a Russian - who are plentiful over there. Word of warning, check your 'girl' carefully. I got the scare of my life when I saw that my 'date's' friend was a tranny! And my girl had already started blowing me! I got her to hike up her skirt and she almost killed herself laughing when she saw my relief that she had a pussy and not a cock. It was cheap, we each paid about $75.00.

I apologize if I took this thread off track and I don't want to appear like a swelled prosciuttohead, but I've never had to pay for sex in Italy. I can't give you a reason why, so please dont ask.

Thanks gents...

I wasn't ignoring your input and suggestions, but time became short prior to leaving and I haven't had a chance to respond since returning.

By the way Dr. W...your post made me LOL...and you had me goin'....for a while anyway ;)

Thanks to those that took the time to reply...honestly, there was so much to see in Roma...the sex trade did not make the priority list. Shocking I know, but true.

The "Eternal City" was/is a most incredible place and although the list of sights is far too long to detail here, suffice to say I was blown away and can't wait to go back. So much history and so little time.

I think the thing that was most apparent after being there, was that we in North America have such young countries, with (by comparison) a short histories and Rome in particular has so much.

Rome would require weeks to see properly and I will definitely return...after all, I tossed a coin into Trevi fountain, so legend says that will ensure my return.

Again...for your input...multo grazie

Ciao
