I visited a SC yesterday. It was strictly a non contact place. I had an interesting conversation with one of the dancers. She insisted that what she did was an art form. There is no sexual overtones just her using her body to show her natural beauty. She claimed that any dancer who allowed contact was in reality a prostitute. "They just sell their body to make some $$$). She also claimed that there were only 17 non contact bars left in Canada.
Some in Windsor and others in small rural towns e.g. Hanover, Owen Sound, Collingwood.
I was wondering how fellow terbites feel about this discussion. I don't see any kind erotic dance as an art form per se. I hire a dancer to satisfy my voyueristic desires. Am I wrong.
Also, there has to be more that 17 non contact clubs in the entire country.
P.S. She was from Montreal and was complaining because she can't get any work there unless she goes "out to the small towns".

Dancing is an art form in many ways. But my question is concerning an erotic dance when the purpose is to arouse, a customer. Thrusting a groin or shaking a boob in your face to me is not an art. Graceful movements in time to music is an art form. Most dancers I see in SC's are not into the art form but into getting the guy to open his wallet. So the question is are contact dancers (groin boobs and all) prostitutes? Are non contact dancers (groin in face and shaking boobs) artistic?

I think it can be, but t'ain't necessarily so.
Just like every art form (including visual arts and music), there are some true artists out there (OK, maybe not many), a lot of journey(wo)men (the ones treat it as job and are good at it), and the hacks (no good at it and just in it for the money). But the artists sure can keep you coming back.
Art and commerce have never been exclusive and never will be. Whether its art or not can be either in the eye of the beholder or the intent of the person creating it, and the two may not necessarily agree.
Just my 2 cents.
