hi there guys!
I am planning to come to Ottawa. I don't know the area AT ALL! I will either fly or take the train (love my car but hate long trips) so where is a good place to stay?
Also other than the yummy men of Ottawa, what else is there to do? I don't know any good places there like I do in toronto.
Since this is a working vacation of sorts......I plan to enjoy Ottawa in the "touristy" way lol

Thanks in advance!
Kara

There is tons to do in Ottawa that you can't really do elsewhere

Museums
Galleries
Parliament
Canal

And then all of the stuff that you can do elsewhere but with an Ottawa flare:

Byward Market
Clubs
Parks

What are your interests?
Most of the touristy stuff is downtown. The Westin is pretty central that way.

PM me for more info.

If you really want a nice hotel... go to the Hilton Lac Lemy and get an executive suite. It's on the top floors: 17th, 18th, 19th. I think there's a reception desk on the 17th so you may want something on the 18th or 19th. The floors are only accessible by pass key so you may have to meet your clients in the lobby... but it's a huge fucking lobby... you can discreetly meet there and whisk him/her up to your room. The exec suites have a nice roman tub and a huge standing shower that can easily fit 5 or 6 people. You could have lotta fun in there.

The best hotel, but a little pricy, is the Hilton Lac Leamy, attached to the casino.

I would stay away from the Hampton Inn, near the train station. There absolutely NOTHING in that part of town and the hotel doesn't even have a restaurant. It is mostly used by out of town military and RCMP officers because of the location next to their offices.

See?! That's TWO for the Hilton Lac Leamy!

Hampton Inn isn't that bad... there's plenty near by within a very short driving distince. And the place isn't a heat score either. Just waltz up thru the front doors to the elevators. The place is like a tomb.

You could also try the Sheraton downtown. I got a good deal booking online with them. (About $85 a night if I recall)

I was in Ottawa last week.
Had a great time.
I stayed at the Westin.
It is a beautiful hotel right downtown, within walking distance of everything.
The lobby is quite large, and easy to get people in (there is a walk in entrance through the Rideau Centre Mall. (there is no staff at this door)(however you do need a room key to use the elevator)

As for what to do, the other covered it quite well.
Byward market is very nice, lot's of fresh food, and many restaurants.
(I really enjoyed the Blue Cactus)

The Canadian Museum of Civilization is a great way to spend a day. (and cheap too, on Sundays it's only 5.00 to get in)

The Parliament Buildings offer free tours, and are awesome to walk through.

If you need any other info, pm me

Enjoy your trip

This is kinda late, but....

If you really like old architecture I recommend the Nature museum. The building used to also house the Museum of Civilization.

Its a fabulous building, and if you like nature the inside stuff is good too!
