Kind of hand in hand with the Russian Brides thread on here, i caught a doc the other night on life about Russian Brides.
The show follows a bunch of guys from the states who make the pilgrimage to Russia to find the perfect woman.
At times, it was painfull to watch frankly.
First guy was a postal worker from detroit who hadn't had a date in 10 years and never really had a steady girlfriend. In one respect your heart goes out to the guy, he was kind of this short chunkie average white dude.
The other guy, was this meglomaniac from California with a older convertable mustang and a cookie cutter house in the burbs. At first he seemed kind of normal, but then he starts spouting off about how N. American women are all selfish self centered creatures who don't know how to take care of their man. This guy went on and on and on about it. In one clip, he is driving down the road talking about how it was important that his wife maintain her looks and should she let them go, it would be the siberian express for her. He brought this chick back from Ukraine and married her within 3 days.
The other guy was some redneck who went on about how he basically was only attracted to young slim, really beautiful hard bodies. Meanwhile, this guy is trailer park trash himself. He brought some woman back from Moscow and she split and went home after 1 month with him, good ridence. Apparently she said that he would go out every night with his friends and expect to come home to her, ready willing and able to put out.
Of all these guys, i only kind of (marginally) felt for the postal worker. Even he was pathetic though. They were all older, and none would have been considered attractive in a conventional sense.
It was unbelieveable to watch.
None of these women spoke english, and none of these guys spoke russian. It was like a comedy or something. They were carrying out small talk using translators.
The documentary was british and had a slight slant to it - the men were goofs basically.
It never really got very much into the success rates of these marriages or not though, too bad.
The funniest thing though was that all the russian women thought these american goof balls were all rich. They all agreed on that fact. I didn't get that impression at all. I think these women were going to be in for a rude awakening.
Anyway, it was interesting to watch these guys.
