FC Porto won the UEFA.......wearing blue&white.the_big_E said:....................And here is an irrelevant stupid sports fact:
Greece won, they have blue/white in their colour scheme
Patriots won the superbowl, they have blue/white in their colour scheme
Lightning won, they have blue/white in their colour scheme
Pistons won, they have blue/white in their colour scheme.
only the Marlins screwed up the theme, maybe a certain hockey will keep the trend next year...the New York Rangers of course : )~
They didn't win the UEFA (last year yes).. but won the Champions League this year.Benhur said:FC Porto won the UEFA.......wearing blue&white.
I don't think too many people put their money on them at the begining, but I did put a dime on them for the final game, the line was Greece +1/2 goal + 20 cents.Kev said:Its amazing how lucky one team can be. Greece was 80-1 at the beginning of the tournament and 11-2 for this game to win. Who put there money on them at the beginning of the tournament. No one.
Weren't the Greeks one of those defense-minded teams as well? They were certainly well organized and disciplined in their defensive tactics, anyway. They didn't beat all defense-minded teams. The Czechs played the most attacking football of the tournament and I really thought they'd stick it to the Greeks in the Semis. I'm sure France would've liked to have played on the offensive as well, but they couldn't seem to do anything right. And Portugal was often on the offensive as well. They definitely took it to England when they went into a defensive shell...Ranger68 said:Yeah, all luck.
Portugal, Spain, France, Czech, Portugal again.
Total fluke.
LOL
Nice try, kev.
OPPAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
Nice job, Greeks. It was good to see those complacent, total-defense-minded teams get their come-uppance. Hopefully, this will trigger some stylistic changes in the approach of those static, zone-playing coaches.
The difference was they played AGGRESSIVE defense - hard-checking man-to-man - no sitting back in the zone and waiting for the opponent to try to break you down, which makes for LETHALLY dull soccer. The Greeks played up-tempo on both sides of the ball.Sancho said:Weren't the Greeks one of those defense-minded teams as well? I don't disagree with anything you've said.superquad1968 said:Everyone I have talked to would agree with you Sancho. The Greeks played sound defensive football with a mind to counter-attack when the option presented itself. That is to take nothing away from their stunning success.
There are others (see Ranger above) who would disagree.
To me they are the New Jersey Devils of European football.
