This is horseshit.

It's amazing how far the DA's office will go for a little attention. This is absolute grandstanding - in the light of the profile the Bryant case is recieving, I guess the Fulton County (do I smell small town hick redneck) DA didn't want to miss out.

High profile cases, specially in the US; where the DAs are elected officials carry a lot of weight. I guess ther's an election coming up.

Considering the family won't press charges, criminal / civil or otherwise. Some small town, power tripping DA is walking around with a ten foot erection to see himself on tv. What a little bitch.

Yea, I agree with Healer...

How much did the Crown pressing charges against Bertuzzi influence the DA? If we prosecute here for an assault then if they didn't prosecute for vehicular manslaughter does it make the DA in Fulton County seem weak? Just wondering...

Wow. Why, exactly, shouldn't they press charges?

I don't get all this angst about charging Heatley and political motives of a DA.

If I were the driver of the car then I'd expect to be charged. Why should Heatley be any different?

3 Reasons:

1. The Snyder family does not want charges laid (The most important reason)
2. His blood acholol level was almost non-existent
3. Why have they waited 9 months?

1. It is not up to the Snyder family to determine whether he is charged criminally or not.
2. Blood alcohol level is not relevant. He's not being charged with impaired.
3. The length of time between the incident and the charge is also irrelevant, providing that it falls within the statute of limitations set by the jurisdiction.

1. So? It's not up to them. It's up to the DA. Their forgiveness will factor into the sentencing portion, if he's convicted. So, if the family forgives him, then little Heatley goes out and kills someone else's kid - should they blame the Snyders?

2. Again, so? It's not always about being drunk. He was driving at a RIDICULOUSLY dangerous speed for the road. If he'd killed a pedestrian, would it have been different?

3. These kinds of cases almost always take time. What's your point?

I understand the legalities of the situation and the statutes.

What I am saying that the politics of the situation should be taken into account.

To me justice should be met by those who have been harmed and that is not happening here.

"Graham Snyder said it was upsetting to have to sit by and watch the process. His wife, LuAnn, was the one who received the call from the DA's office.

"We're bystanders in [the judicial process]," Graham Snyder said. "[LuAnn] listened basically and they explained to her what the procedure was and what would be happening, and they said they would keep us informed. If it goes to the grand jury, we would have the right to be present, but from their standpoint they said they would not involve us in the case. From the other side, the defense would be allowed to use us." Atlanta Journal Constitution 7/1/04

I think it's a stretch to assume that he's being charged because of politics.

I think it would be far likelier that he WOULDN'T be charged because of politics.

Why do the Snyders feel they should be involved in the process?
