What is there to discuss? They now have the core of the team locked up that did NOT win the conference, let alone the Stanley Cup, last year. Another year of robery by MLSE. But of course Leaf 'fans' will cheer these signings giving them further reason not to put a REAL contender on the ice.

Oh good n_v is back bashing the Leafs...lol...once your team actually can beat the Leafs in the playoffs, your continued shit spewing is meaningless....you said this all last year..blah blah blah. You would love to have all three of the big guys on your team and you know it! So carry one holding the pin for Alfie....lol!

Listen guys, I would love for the Leafs to win the cup .. win even a few cups - seriously. But like the Sens, as you pointed out, hitting your head against a wall ain't gonna make the wall fall down. The Sens are working out some kinks as they see doing the same thing over and over and over again just doesn't cut it. MLSE still has to come to grip with this concept.

BTW - I have some serious reservations by the Sens going after Hasek.

here we go again MLSE once again suckering fans into believing they have a contender by recycling over paid over aged free agents, and the Leaf fan drones are hooting and hollering of course planning that parade down Yonge Street. Bash the Sens all you want at least they are trying to put the pieces of a winning team together, slackers like Bonk and Lalime are gone, the Hasek experiment could prove worthy if he gets a base salary and bonus incentives, but at least the Sens organization isnt coming back with the same ole same ole again.

I highly doubt that the Leafs could beat the Sens again if the Sens had a decent goalie.

Oh Mojo, you know what - BITE ME!!!. Call me names and insult me all you want. I see you are someone who avoids issues in ones life. This thread is about commenting on the Leafs resigning the old guard, not why or how someone comes to thier conclusions about them. Deal with the issue at hand. Or are you not capable??

Well July 1st is here and the Leafs made the right decisions to re-sign the players that have produced for the leafs. Tes even Aki Berg has produced although he needs to step up a little.

Sure the leafs may have signed the same old bunch but these are players that gave it their all in the playoffs.

As far as the Sens signing Hasek there is no guarantee he still con be the dominator.

I think his best season was when Buffalo went to the finals in '99 Sure hes won a cup with the Red Wings but it wasnt all him it was the talent in front of him and having the best coach in the league.

Go Leafs Go! Beat the Sens again!!

And yet their all wasn't enough. Which is why I question these signings and the approval it is receiving from Leaf Nation. I am starting to believe that the people in Toronto have it ingrained in their thoughts that they are not deserving of a Stanley Cup Champion and like mediocracy. People, you deserve better than what MSLE is feeding you. Stop kicking yourselves down and demand better!!!!!!!

I have to agree with N_V on this...what the hell are we resigning Aki Berg for?!?!

Are you seriously telling me we can't find any better defense? What killed the leafs this year (IMO) was the defense.
We have the scoring power, we just don't have enough depth to cover Eddy. Let's try and fix that, and maybe we can win one finally!

Monsoon your right the leafs should of thought twice before signing Berg. I am sure there are many teams that would have wanted Belfour, Roberts and Joey N like the Sens I'm sure Muckler had his eye on Tucker too.

Your right n_v the leafs need more in addition to these signings but if they didnt sign these guys im sure they would have gotten some calls from other teams including the Sens!

But they know better! They beleive the leafs have the chance to win it all. If they didnt have those injuries they probably would have beat the flyers too!

IMHO the leafs are moving in the right direction but they need some more youth especially on defence.

It's fun debating with you Sens fans! hehe Well Monsoon I am guessing your a leafs fan lol

Go Leafs go!!

The Sens are close to signing Matthew Barnaby. We are starting to look like Buffalo north.

At least they still make me feel young. Roberts (1966), Nieuwendyk (1966), Belfour (1965) (also mogilny, leech, marchment, johanson, francis, domi, and fitzgerald, all born before woodstock) Hope there's no strike cause thes guys won't last on the ice too much longer. We need some talented young players soon.

I highly doubt the Leafs could lose to the Sens if the Leafs had better forwards and defense.

What's the point of that statement, exactly?

Anyway, unfortunately, we're both stuck with what we've got - you with your crappy goalie, us with a team just good enough to beat ya.

The Leafs signed Belfour because there just wasn't anybody else - it was either concede to some of Eddie's demands or suffer a year with an older, overpaid team and no goalie to play for them.
At least, this way, they'll make the playoffs again and give us another run.
Berg's signing was minor - he's the fifth defenseman on this team - who cares.
And so much for all those silly "Roberts and Nieuwendyk want to leave to play for a contender" rumours. I guess they thought the Leafs were the best shot they had. :)

Ranger I agree that Muckler missed the boat re Lalime and Bonk. Surely he could got something for them?
The Leafs did have to sign Belfour because of their previous moves. They have NO ONE ready to step in and there is no one on the market at that level. Who here is confident that Tellquist can step up when Eddy's back needs some off? I don't see any hands.
I think Berg's signing is the best of the rest. Little investment. Little risk. He's a big kid who doesn't hurt you as a #6 d-man.
Signing Robert and Nieuwy is loyalty pure and simple. With 150 odd free agents available, I cannot believe they couldn't have taken the same money and signed two other guys who'd have given them the same production and maybe been 6 , 7, 8 yrs younger?
How does this make them a better team?
