There was a challenge in Nova Scotia court for the same charge . But the judge dismissed the appeal and stated that Police have the right to entrap random citizens in order to deal with prostitution issue
I'd be interested in references to a news story on this.

I'm skeptical about the Winnipeg report. I wonder if it's another case of underage sex workers.

Unless there's a guilty plea, all charges get challenged in court.
I was thinking about a challenge to the bill C 36 itself, which could get appealed all the way to the Supreme Court,
as with the previous legislation that was ruled unconstitutional, or some such thing, i guess.

The article says it from street prostitution.
""The five arrested here were exploiters more involved in street prostitution, but not the typical human traffickers," Sgt. Darryl Ramkissoon said Tuesday. "But the media attention this has garnered has sent a message to exploiters."

Would a simple "john" rather than a street pimp be considered a "trafficker" in any sense of the word?
