I'm willing to give Aruajo a shot, but how could they not swing a deal to get Jameer Nelson when he slipped so low and the Raps so in need of a point guard? The more things chage in Raptorland, the more they stay the same.

Araujo ... big guy ... decent post moves with soft touch. Not too quick. May have trouble guarding any more athletic players.

hmmm.....

Araujo is actually a reasonable fit for the Raptors - he's 24 (more mature), has a serious mean streak- gets in foul trouble often, kinda like a big kid who doesn't know his own size, a decent shooter from the line (72%), and a reasonable player inside on offense(62 %). Soft on D in the post though. Can shoot the 3 ball, not at all a shotblocker. And last year though BYU lost in a heartbreaker (by5) against Alabama(i think) in the first round - Araujo was actually a stand out in that game. He runs the floor well though.

Technically at 285lbs if a team needs a widebody in the paint, and a more mature player who may not require as much seasoning - he's your guy.

I think he's a good fit for the Raptors considering what was offered up in the draft.

Rafael Araujo

...I think the Rap's are smoking something bad.....

-has no jumping ability, short arms, very little post game and no upside at 24 years of age

-All the analysis on him is that he is projected to be a solid key reserve......that's fine and dandy if he was the 20th pick

....but the friggin raps used the 8th pick on him....which usually amounts to solid NBA starter or potential star

Rafael Araujo is a smaller version of montross or big country....plus he gets into foul trouble alot

BYU is such big basketball factory...not

The raps could have pick the big dude if they wanted to waste the pick.....pavel pozekine (sp)...18, 7-5 with lots of potential

I disagree wrong hole.....

I think we have to give this guy a shot - the Raptors have had higher picks in the past that didn't work out for the team (Stoudamire, Camby and TMac).

For whatever obscure reason, last year during the March Madness tourney; this guy actaually stood out. I mentioned to a friend of mine, who reminded me of this conversation; that I stated that this guy might be a force to reckon with one day in the pros.

I have never been a big fan of drafting big players, just for the sake of size - but this player might just work out.

He could either be a dud - like Montross, as you mentioned or he could be the next Rick mahorn....we have to see him play in the pros fist.

Like I mentioned, I saw him play in college - and he was solid...and in some draft books, they had this guy ranked second for centers, behind Okafor.

yeah I saw him play too, he over powered people in college especially against the centres of his lesser conference b/c he was 23 yrs old and fully developed vs 18 to 20 year old skinny centres....meanwhile in the Pro's centres are going to be big as or bigger and alot more athletic.....and he was not a good defender in college mainly because of his lack of athleticism....think about the pro's...he may score 8pts per game but he is going to give up 16pts to opposing centres....what kind of 6-11 dude plays below the rim....in the pro's it's above the rim

what i'm saying is jahidi white is more athletic and stronger and you could get jahidi for a box of crackerjacks....never mind the 8th pick overall

2nd best centre.....there's a big drop off talent wise after Okafor....Rafael was projected as a 15th to 20th pick.....this year was a 'smalls' crop talent wise

Right now the Raptors are in dire need for a big man. On the depth chart the need for a point guard is second, then a PF and a backup SG.

I hate to say this but....point guards are like running backs in the NFL - they're a dime a dozen, big men are like QBs - theyre much harder to find. Throughout bball history, for almost every team I; can name a point guard who at the very least can run an offense properly, but its difficult to say that every team had a decent center or even a competent one. I'm sure the Raptors can find another point guard next year if needed.

There were 3 other big men who went after Araujo - but none of the could fit the bill. The Raptors need to make the playoffs soon, this year if possible. I dont think Carter will put up with another player "in development". They were lucky with Bosh.

Drafted in the 11 spot was Biedrins....he's 18 7'0 -a high schooler...in Latvia!. He may develop into a good player, but not anytime soon. Same with Swift, and he cant shoot free throws worth a crap. Podkolzine at 7'5'and 303 lbs has the same health problem as Muresan....and he's 21. All 3 will require a lot of work - the Raptors do not have the luxury of time on this. These players couldn't or didn't overpower in college (becauuse they never played at that level) so it's difficult to see how they'll do in the NBA. At least Araujo is closer than any of these guys, by at least 2 or 3 years.

I'm sure the Raptors can get by with Mo Pete and Rose playing the point. But right now, they have nobody for the paint.
Bosh is a better PF than a C. At least they drafted the best talent for the position they most urgently needed to fill.

Plus most non -North American players do play below the rim - Nowitzski, Yao to name two. Player development in most parts of the world emphasize the basics- shooting, passing, running the floor. Thats why every time you see a player from Croatia, Argentina, Spain - they all have 1 thing in common, regardless of position - they all know the basics and are decent to good shooters.

At least next year - there's something to watch, either a bust or boom.

Araujo fills the need for a big body down in the blocks. Kind of reminds me too much of Big Country Reeves. He is more mature and closer to playing than the Biedrins, Poldkozines. Remember Raps play in the East, where Eddie Curry is considered one of the dominant centres.

The other Raptor need would have been point but Telfair or Nelson so soon would be a stretch. Raps may have been able to trade down and still gotten Araujo.

Lots of small forward types in the draft.

Bosh may be better suited for small forward and can't say that Mo Pete will be back next year.

This guy (Aruajo) will not see more than 25 min per game. He'll get into a lot of foul trouble early. Araujo fouled out in
61 of his 64 junior college games. The Raps had to make this pick anyway because this draft sucked.

I still get the chills every time I look at the players during the Grunwald draft era. Grunwald was a yoyo, no doubt about it.

I'm willing to see what Babcock can do. Considering the draft was skinny for the Raptors need for next year - I'm willing to give Babcock a couple of years worth of drafts and hopefully deals that can make the team better.
