God couldn't save the queen today in Lisbon. Great match, lots of drama, but in the end the deserved team moves through.

AGH! is all i have to say, and to my neighbours down the street celebrating?!?!?.....it would've been a different end result had Rooney been playing..oh, and hasn't Italy's "play defence after you score" tactic not taught anyone anything?????

Spain, Italy, Germany, and now England - hard to describe what's going on but who's next. Could France be the next in line. It seems that one of the under-dogs is gonna take it this year. I don't know why teams like England and Italy go on defensive when up by only one goal. There have been some impressive comebacks so far and you think the coaches may have learned something by now. Today's game was very entertaining and all the credit to Portugal for not giving up until the end. Beck's is gonna be crucified by the British media and deservedly so.

I was watching in a pub full of english fans and one potugese fan.

I was surprised at how little impact Beckham had on the game. He might as well have stayed home. Contrast that with the other Real Madrid superstar Figo, who worked like a horse. And how could he miss the penalty???

In fairness to Beck's there all the players after him were paying special attention to the turf when placing the ball. Seems like there was a problem with the field there. His only fault was being first IMHO.

Being the quarterfinal, there should be no surprise for a favourite to drop out at this stage. Therefore I wouldn't put England in the same group as the other three who definately disappointed.

Well, he must have learned that in Penalty 101. It never ceases to amaze me that top notch professional players can miss the goal on a penalty, as today 2 out of 14 did. That is such a fundamental skill that every single professional player should possess.

For me, having witnessed Beckham play for years, first while living in England when he first came up (and I also saw Owen's very first Premiership game, and he looked GOOD!) I have always felt he was a bit overrated. He is a good midfielder, don't get me wrong, particularly when he is playing in the part of the midfield where he should, but IMHO he has lapses in play and judgement that are just inexcusable for someone commanding the amount of money he does. At his best, I don't see many others (outside of ZIZOU) who can take control of a game and kick a ball 60 yards downfield to a teammate on the fly and get it right on his foot, but he doesn't show alot of that form lately. That's all I can really say on this topic.
Cheers

That's the Point... Shows you how bad a lad he is.... I am sorry but in an International competition's Quarter Final, Penalty Kicks, you MUST ensure there will be no Problems when you kick that Ball.
He is a Professional, no excuse!!

Pressure....the pressure is immense.....look at the 1/4 finals of the WC in 1986....Brazil-France, Platini & Socrates missed the net.

One thing is when the goalie get lucky and get a hand on the ball. Another thing entirely is when the ball do not hit the goal.

My knowledge of the game of football, no matter how minimal it may seem to you, is leaps and bounds ahead of your undertsanding of it my friend.
BTW Kev, there is nothing wrong admitting to being a couch potato.

Bleach. Five minutes of excitement followed by seventy minutes of dull football, followed by 45 or so minutes of nail-biting. They don't get any closer.
Vassell was useless - not sure why he got selected for the penalty - I don't think he had a touch all game.
You could see that when Rooney went out, the team completely lost all offensive poise.
Too bad. That's life. Congrats to the home side. The host team should play in the semis.
Go Greece! ;)
