Screw Calgary - Go Tampa

I can no longer in good conscience root for Calgary just because they're the last Canadian team left.

Whatta bunch of thugs.

First Kubina and Fedotenko are knocked out by dirty checks - both should have been penalties - now Lecavalier is ambushed by that cheap pr*ck Nieminen, who's already been suspended once for being a jackass. Then Iginla has the good class to skate over and mock Lecavalier whose head was later mopped of blood, and who didn't see the ice for the rest of the game. What a no-class move. I guess it stems from the coach - Sutter, the epitome of a low-skill do anything to win player.

Sad, just sad.

Hopefully, Nieminen's suspended and Tampa goes on to throttle these *ssholes.

Go Tampa! F*ck the Flames.

Uh, the guy was driven into the boards and cracked his cheek open on the dasher? Since when can you check a guy from behind?

It's hard work explaining things to you all the time Cnd-Guy. Learn to read.

Yep. Penalties are subjective calls. I think it should have been a penalty. If I see a player driving another guy repeatedly into the boards, whether or not (like most Calgary checks in this series) he's leaped into him, and ESPECIALLY when the player being checked is injured, I'm calling it.
I guess I don't agree with you or "any of the Sports News" (whoever that is LOL).
Hitting from behind is hitting from behind. Not hard. Buy a dictionary.

I must agree to disagree. I dont think the hit on Fedotenko was that bad, I dont know who hit him, but I doubt that was his intent. However, the hit on Lecavalier was dirty. Iginla no class? Again I must disagree, its the Stanley Cup, its playoff intensity, emotions run over board. I guarantee you Iginla would not do that in the regular season.

The guy who skates away from a check obviously out-hit the other guy and doesn't deserve a penalty.

Or something like that....

Okay, that's fine. If I'd been reffing, I would have called that. I think things have gotten out of hand in the NHL recently, and I think a crackdown on cheap shots and "marginal" hits is in order.
To that end, I think Regehr should have been penalized for the hit.
I still think Iginla acted with very little class after the Lecavalier hit, although he had obviously calmed down after the game.

I also still think that Calgary is playing far too dirty in these playoffs - too many elbows to the head, too many runs from behind, too many guys running goaltenders, too much Oliwa and Simon gooning it up.
This is obviously a matter of opinion.
My opinion has led me to root for someone else.

Hey, CND-Guy, I watched all those sportcasts. I saw lots of comments to the effect that the hit was "borderline" but almost none to the effect that the hit was "clean".
Just to clarify.

so now we base a penalty being called on whether the player gets injured or not . That's logical. About as logical as that other dumb thread you started .
You're exactly right. It IS as logical as the other thread I started.

Which explains why you still don't get it.

LOL

Okay, so I've got nv and boxers (both on Ignore) obviously ranting against me, as well as Cnd-Guy.

Leads me to believe I've got it right again.

The refs have let the last two games get out of hand. A crackdown on cheap shots and marginal hits is not what's needed...the refs need to stop vascilating with their inteprtations of the rule book. Interpretation is ruining the game.

That said, gotta love Flames hockey...good Canadian kids playing old time hockey! Go Flames!

I thought you didn't give any credence to what analysts on TV have to say because they were the ones who are always talking about the loosers "out-playing" and "defense wins games" and crap like that.

I agree that the refs have been letting the games get out of hand. By crackdown, I mean *calling the rules as they appear in print*. Allowing all this "marginal" stuff, that's technically illegal, to go on just makes everyone crazy - leaving your feet to make a hit, pounding guys from behind, flying elbows to the head, not to mention interfering with St. Louis on every shift. The Flames have gone a bit wacko. Now they're complaining about the officiating. That's rich.

This is "old time" "Canadian" hockey in about the same way that Bobby Clarke breaking Kharlamov's ankle was.
Not really very appealing.

I'd much rather watch good Canadian kids like Sakic. Or St. Louis, which is why I'm now rooting for Tampa.

I think it's now clear that the only way Calgary feels they can win, Goob, is by thuggery. Okay, thuggery and goaltending. ;) That's what's making it so close. I love a good fight, and it's been too long since there's been one during a game in the Finals when the result has been in doubt. But a fight's not the same as all the cheap stuff going on. I credit Tampa for not retaliating after all this sh*t, especially the Lecavalier hit. Shows that their desire to win is stronger than many of the Flames players desires - Nieminen, say - to goon it up.

Go Tampa.

Ranger, try watching St. Louis when Calgary has the puck if you want to see interference. He's a small guy so I'll give him some leeway, but please don't try to say it's only going one way. Tampa was throwing the flying elbows last night as well.

Doctor: It's Tampa Bay playing Calgary, you idiot. St. Louis was eliminated in the first round.

I think it's MOSTLY going one way, if we're talking about St. Louis, here. Lots of skilled players are getting totally fed up with the interference in the NHL these days - it's ratcheted up several notches in the playoffs, and the refs are doing little to control it. It's back to the bad old days. What happened to the crackdown on this stuff??

I think the bad play has been instigated by Calgary. That much was clear to me from the first game. The Flames have taken more penalties in all but one game. Three Lightning players have now been knocked out of play on "marginal" hits at best (Regehr), intent to injure hits at worst (Nieminen). This is laudable hockey, why?

Ill put my two cents in here. From what I saw in the game last night was great end to end hockey and Richards was the winning goal. Sure the physical aspect of the game has intensified as the series has gone on I mean doesnt that happen in the playoffs as the series progresses? The Flames intention wasnt to get ugly and give the impression that they arent out there to win. The Flames were frustrated because they couldnt score a goal and like in most games it tends to get more physical. Sutter I'm sure has told his team to settle down and come back strong in Game 5. Ranger I'm sorry to hear you have switched sides but for me Im sticking with the Flames I can steel feel the heart and desire of them to win it all!

Go Flames Go!
