Here and there
Great day Sunday for the vrooom, vrooom fans. Unfortunately, two of the races were runaways, but the surprise of the day was a very entertaining Indy 500 (between the raindrops). For fans who get into the strategy, it was great down the stretch.

And if anyone is seriously into NASCAR, their web site is second to none. You can actually access the teams' radio frequencies online (with about a 10-15 second delay from actual time). I always bring a scanner to the races I go to, but this is a tremendous bit of public service by NASCAR.

Unfortunately the 500 is only a former glory of itself. The owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Tony Hulman George has really ruined open wheel racing in North America. He selfishly took the 500 and developed his own racing league...the IRL. The IRL since its inception hasn't down shit as far as attracting fans. Sure racers and owners are leaving CART and jumping ship to the IRL but the IRL is not attracting fans like NASCAR. We could argue that the IRL needs more time to grow but i would like to see somehow the IRL and CART merge together to form a series that would incorporate both leagues. Maybe once again we can watch the 500 and see the best open wheel racers in North America plus those from other countries compete for a sip of milk.........plus all that cash. In the old days before Tony Hulman George screwed things up watching the 500 was something special. These days i would rather watch NASCAR. --- Kev

I couldn't agree more. Tony George is the antichrist. A bunch of us used to go to the 500 every year until he ruined it. Never again.

Never the safest place
I don't get the fascination with some other sports, (golf, basketball) so I just don't watch them and don't feel any need to question those who do. It's as pointless as questioning someone on why they like a certain type of music or food that you don't like.

The threat of rain might have made the Indy 500 more entertaining than it would have been otherwise. Since no one knew when the race might be stopped, they all wanted to be leading.

24 Hours of Le Mans in mid June is the big race every year for me to watch. Not much side by side, wheel banging action if that's what you're after, but I like the large variety of cars all on the track at the same time. Other series seem like spec car racing to me because the cars all look the same.
