This last weekend Real lost their match 2-1 to Muricia who have already been relegated. They have now slumped to third place behind Barcelona, and Valencia.

Madrid with all their talent have lost five of its last six league matches.......including four straight. This is the worst run in team history. They have missed out of Champions League and the Copa del Rey. These last few months have been dismal for this club. What the hell happened.........ANYONE? --- Kev

this team is the international soccer equavilent of the NY Rangers, and it has been proven time and time again in sports that you just cant go and splash out on a ton of superstars and expect them to gel together and put their egos aside and win everything, there has to be a developed nucleus of players which you add on by buying other players otherwise it just doesnt work, witness the other example Chelsea, but I gotta wonder giving that team just one year together isnt enough, gotta see them next year.

Good point scouser but the Yankees are an exception to that rule.

Madrid now has no silverware to show for all the money they spent and rumor has it Beckham will play for Chelsea next year.

Rijkaard should get 'Coach of Year' honors for what he did with Barcelona - they were in 9th place mid-year and now they almost finished first - quite the accomplishment that.

I'm quietly enjoying Madrid's misery because I dont like it when teams try to buy success.

ahhh but the Yankees have drafted alot of good players in the form of Jeter, Soriano etc etc, they make alot of money from TV, which allows them to hire more scouts than anyone else which allows them to draft really well and on top of that buy free agent talent, they are a unique case in sports.

I think that's because baseball is an exception in the world of team sports. Baseball is a sport that if you can do well as an individual and help your team without needing help from your teammates. The most important talent in baseball is hitting the ball. The superstars can do their thing at the plate and still be considered team players.
