Should Bertuzzi be allowed to play in the World Cup?

When will the ruling on his suspension and status be announced?

No i don't think he should be allowed. He should take the time to get his head straight so when the new NHL season starts he'll be 100 percent right in the head. IMHO The ruling i believe is August 29th.

However........... he still could be part of the team
If the NHL reinstates the suspended Bertuzzi before the deadline and a player named to the roster withdraws, the addition of Bertuzzi would be "strongly considered," Gretzky said. For now, the potential distraction of naming a suspended player has been avoided.

accident??? your humanity is mistaken kat

should be 5-10 in Kingston with good behaviour

cave man has too many skills but put him in a 6 X 8 cell to think about how he wasted his life in one minute by being a big man with no brain

he can play in the old timers league when he can put skates on again

we have laws that apply to malicious assault with intent injure

sad to have hockey's best player gone but another great player will take his place

c ya todd, don't pick up the soap.

Yes, He should. His accident was in the NHL, and he is paying for it. He is much better then atleast four others on this roster, he should certainly be allowed to represent our country.

To make a mistake is human. He has been punished, no need in carrying too far.
Well my dear i wouldn't call his error in poor judgement an accident. And i don't think whether he should play or not has anything to do with his talent as a hockey player.
I am a Canucks fan incase you are not aware. I really think Todd needs to regroup as a player, and deal with the person who shows up on the ice. That person needs help. And i think participating in the WC would take time away from his healing process.

Also i'm selfish and i want Todd to be 110 percent for the up and coming Canucks season. I don't really think Todd has reached his full potenial, and when he does...if he does.........hes going to be deadly. Kisses --- Kev

Kat. your all wet on this one. What Todd did was a deliberate premeditated assault period. When Mr. Moore is ready to play hockey again that's when Todd should be allowed to play hockey, and if that happens to be never then it's bye bye for life. that means at any level. all you bertuzzi sympathizers should think how you would feel if this happened to you or to your teamate. Do you think Sakic or Foote wwnt to be teamates with him.

I have to agree with Blitz, if he had done that walking down the sidewalk, he would have been charged with assault. I don't think that just because he is a good hockey player he should be immune from paying appropriately for his actions. I did try to stay out of this conversation last time, but having a harder time biting my tongue this time. No matter what the forum is, there is NO reason for a premeditated attack on another human being. Violence is a part of hockey. But actions such as this, to me, should be punishable by more than someone taking away his ability to play for a bit. If in "real life" the punishment for assaulting someone was that you couldn't work for a little while, there would be a heck of a lot more assault (token attempt at humour)

Maybe some people should watch the clip again, it seems they've lightened up on how serious an incident it was. Anyone who says he should play.....think again. It's not about the NHL or the Worlds, it's about hockey in general, don't divide the issue.

Personally, I don't want him on the team. Sure he's a great hockey player, but I don't want someone of his moral ilk representing my country.

We want someone with much better morals on our team. Like a Terbite for example.

Some people after initially seeing the incident felt he should have gotten 2 games and that Moore "had it coming". I didn't agree with those conclusions then and I don't agree with them now.
Let him sit as long as Moore. That would be fair.

Who has "lightened up on how serious an incident it was"? Is Moore's neck suddenly not fractured??
Yeah, it's people taking a deep breath and not letting emotions get the better of them. The problem is, the suspension was utterly warranted, and I hope there's a SERIOUS review before next season.

The seriousness of the injury, along with the premeditation of the attack, warranted heavy suspension - NOT how "serious" the attack looked on television.

Pistol, I'm entirely on-board with sitting Bertuzzi as long as Moore sits. I think the NHL, in cases where players intentionally injure other players, or injure them in intentional attacks, should suspend the offending player as long as the injured party is out. In all cases. Period.

Entire team needed to shut down Bertuzzi.

Bertuzzi used to be a huge defensive liability for the Canucks, but then after back to back 40 goal seasons, the opposing team now dedicates their entire five man unit to shut down Bertuzzi. Its as if they don't even try to score with Bertuzzi on the ice, they just concentrate their physical energy on containing him and forcing another Canuck to beat them. Notice how Bertuzzi's plus minus rating magically skyrocketed even with his decline in goals?

What I meant was, some fans have "lightened up" on the incident, because they want him to play for Canada.

Was it not a crime because it was done in a hockey game?

The Vancouver Police investigated the Bertuzzi/Moore case for months, and have finished the investigation. Yet they still have yet to release any information or their final conclussion. Was the Bertuzzi/Moore incident a crime? According to law. We do not know.

If it can be proven that a player with willful intent set out to cause bodily injury on another player.

Then i would say it is a crime and said player should be held accountable. --- Denny Crane

No crime.

There is no public appetite to prosecute this crime. Imagine finding 12 jurors who are not Canuck fans. :)
Might have to import jurors from Toronto.
