There's a similar story to this one printed in today's Toronto Star paper about this same issue. It seems the PC's are using this to make all prostitution look bad. Obviously they are not outright saying that all victims of human trafficking are underaged but they definitely want to dirty the image of prostitution even further so that there is an outrage when it comes time for legalization.

Human trafficking of young girls in Ontario must be tackled by police crime force, say MPPs
Ontario needs police task force to fight human trafficking, MPPs say in report on sexual violence and harassment

Ontario needs a police task force to fight human trafficking of girls as young as 13 with the same energy that guns and gangs were targeted after the Jane Creba shooting on Boxing Day 10 years ago.

That’s one of 67 recommendations from an all-party committee of MPPs who spent a year investigating sexual violence and harassment across the province.

“They really are the girls next door,” Progressive Conservative MPP Laurie Scott said Thursday, noting the vast majority forced into the sex trade by human traffickers, often drug dealers who get them hooked, are local.

“What will it take for our province to take this issue seriously? Does this need to happen to a girl from Rosedale or the Bridle Path?” Scott (Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock) added, calling human trafficking an “underground and very fast-growing crime.”

The cabinet minister shepherding a new sexual violence and harassment law through the legislature said the recommendations will be studied and could be used to strengthen the bill.

“I’m open to all good ideas on this,” Tracy MacCharles told reporters, brushing off criticism that the legislation was introduced before the committee’s report.

“The premier and I didn’t want to wait. It was important we kept moving.”

That bill, part of a $41-million action plan that includes edgy TV ads against sexual harassment and violence, would force employers to take complaints more seriously and clear obstacles for victims taking legal action.

The committee also called for measures to smooth the passage of sexual violence and harassment cases through the court system, with better sensitivity training for police and court workers, including judges, along with better supports for survivors and expanded public education.

MPPs did not put a price tag on their recommendations, which will require increased financial support, said committee chair Daiene Vernile, a Liberal who represents Kitchener Centre.

“Now it is up to the government to decide,” she added, insisting that only “greater sensitivity” will encourage more victims of sexual violence and harassment to come forward without fear of the legal process and feeling further shamed.

The 47-page report found one in three women experience sexual assault in their lifetimes but few contact police.

“The journey these people face is terrible,” said Liberal MPP Eleanor McMahon (Burlington). “We need to change that.”

The committee heard from 147 witnesses, including First Nations women who attended residential schools, as it travelled from Toronto to Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo, Kingston and Ottawa over three months last spring.

“It was gut-wrenching, some of the stories,” said New Democrat MPP Peggy Sattler (London West). “We watched survivors struggling to hold back tears.”

The PC's?

The article states it was an ALL party coming together.

And as the Liberals presently have a MAJORITY both Provincial and Federal....

They are going to treat this the same way. ALL parties will. Get it through your heads.

Anyone who thinks Trudeau or Wynne will legalize prostitution will be disappointed.

What a GROSS WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY. We don't need more Police for this. There is enough to handle what little underage prostitution there is. Hey guys just think, how often do you hear about or suspect underage girls in the industry...... very few. Not enough to justify allocating more taxpayers money.

Powerful and disturbing series of articles on the very dark side of the sex industry.

So unfortunate that there are predatory monsters out there taking advantage of vulnerable young women and girls.
Not only do they ruin lives and families, they also put a horribly negative light on the entire sex industry.

Look at the comments from the two Conservative MPP's. It's typical "protect our vulnerable young women rhetoric." The solution is not MORE enforcement but legalization that will decimate the trafficking side. Obviously the PC base are those who would much rather keep things the way they are.

If someone challenged Mr. Trudeau in court, I think the outcome would be a lot more compromising than when Mr. Harper's government was in power.

Here is yesterday's Toronto Star front page story by Olivia Carville
http://www.pressreader.com/canada/toronto-star/20151212/284391263184694/TextView
Reading this was annoying because dudes from all walks of life (including Police Officers) are using prostitutes so they know the demand is there and it won't be stopped by policing more. It's just another excuse for a Police sting operation like the one that took place in York Region recently.

Today's story on the front page is titled "The pimps turn you into a robot. All you know is money, drugs and sex." Also by Olivia Carville.

This is being headed up by the Majority Liberals. With input from all three parties. Any action taken will by because all three parties wanted it.

I can understand differing views on various issues twizz. But on this one there is no partisanship. All the parties can and will use this for cheap political points. There are too many votes to be lost and compared to gains.

Go ahead and post what y!ou like but even some of the biggest liberal partisans agree that it's a no win from the politicians side. And we won't really know how they will react to a supreme court challenge for perhaps a decade.

Just stay safe, use you big head when booking and realize that no party will take this on.

Still can't admit the Reform Party left overs and wannabes are once again conflating false stats on trafficking

"These young women, girls really, underaged girls and children, are being forced into sex work in our cities and towns, and they really are the girls next door," said Progressive Conservative MPP Laurie Scott.

MPP Laurie Scott, sounds and smells like a Conservative to me!

Again. It's an ALL party committee. Headed up by a Liberal MPP. That will produce a paper.

So if the Libs have a majority, both Provincially and Federally, and produce a paper calling for increased enforcement, and they do it, what will you say then?

This is why I've retired from the hobby (though I still lurk on here a bit). One girl whom I saw regular and who could at one time could be described as a "star" in this industry, revealed her personal story to me. She was trafficked into this industry by very dark and powerful forces (that aren't covered in today's Star story). I've tried to help her with some success but it's an on-going struggle. Sure, there are lots of girls who do this of their free will and if two consenting adults agree to a business relationship that may involve intimacy, I believe there is no harm done. But the cold hard fact is that there are many young, at-risk girls who are forced into this industry and you never know if you're aiding and abetting until you are. I don't pass judgement on anyone who hobbies because I genuinely believe that most guys mean no harm whatsoever, but I can't do it anymore because I feel like in a small way I was contributing to it.

TRUTH: In nearly every stable modern society, the rate of coercion for adult prostitutes is about 2% or less, and for underage ones about 8-10%; this is roughly the same as the rate of non-sex-working women who report an abusive or controlling boyfriend or husband.

The Game: Living Hell in hotel chains

The cops, pimps and victims all call it "The Game." It's no game. Young Canadian girls are being beaten, branded, bought and sold in hotels and motels, and along highways across the GTA and Ontario.

Detectives say the crime is growing because trafficking is so lucrative — a pimp can earn $280,000 a year from one sex-trade worker, according to the RCMP. The Internet has also changed The Game by taking these girls off the streets and hiding them behind closed doors. The girls are typically sold on the website Backpage.com which police say is notorious for running sex trafficking advertisements across North America.

Over the past month, the Star has interviewed six victims who were lured into The Game and trafficked throughout the GTA, moved every few days between four-star downtown hotels to cheap motels and strip clubs along Highway 401 and the QEW.

Their stories have similar traits — what lured the girls into The Game was the illusion of love and a secure future. What made them stay was the fear of being beaten, burnt, “outed as whores” or left for dead, and sometimes threats to their families.

Some of these girls are runaways, abandoned by their parents, or foster kids lured straight out of group homes; others grew up in middle-income households and are recruited from high schools or house parties.

The six victims the Star interviewed said those buying sex were from all walks of life, including businessmen, doctors, lawyers, police officers, labourers, drug dealers, college students, teachers, judges, accountants and soldiers. Occasionally they were women.

I find it very suspicious that the Police claim to search Backpage daily for exploited girls yet ASIAN Human Trafficing sweat shops run without interference.

If any of these reports are true, it would be easy as pie for the police to go in and check on these sex workers and rescue the ones that need rescuing. As well, arresting the pimps would be accomplished just as easily. Just set up dates and go talk to them and see whats what.
