Well what I heard...Doan had knee surgery, and he might not be 100% healthy come the start of the championships. So this would allow Canada to replace him with Bertuzzi. For a number of reasons they didnt want to name Bertuzzi to the team right away. Gretzky said in the news conference this is the team unless there are injuries. An injury to someone else is the only way Bertuzzi will now make the team. They also didnt want to name him because that would put pressure on the NHLPA to reinstate him.

No Bertuzzi means no media circus. Also with some Avalanche players in the dressing room, who knows how they'd react.

WOW..........Look at all the Maple Leaf players that are on that list!!!!! No wonder they are contending for the Stanley Cup.

I like the lineup except for a a few things I will agree with the other terbites in this thread. We got some good young legs in the lineup that we didnt have in the '02 olympics but Gretz should of given consideration to Lacavalier, Nash, Primeauand Kariya. Lemeuix as great as he is has been there and done that and it's time to give one of these young kids a chance.

It's a tough decision to make on whos in and whos out and goes to show how much talent we have here in Canada:)

Kathleen, hard as it may be to agree on line-ups, I agree almost 100% with your comment. You get my vote for the next GM of the Leafs.

Now that I think about it, I think Bertuzzi (especially) and Lecavalier were left off the team for being or being known as selfish players.
In net, Theodore was prob. left off the team due to the media circus that is his family. I bleed blue and white and am a big Eddie fan, but he has very little future and therefore why have him there to be one of the back-ups?
Mario and Yzerman need to move over and let Joe Sakic have his turn at being the man for Canada.
On my defense, Wade Redden is still golfing in Aug./Sept. I would even take his partner Chris Phillips or McCabe or Souray or Boumeister.

Chara is Chris Phillips' partner on defence. Boumeister played great at the recent world championships.

I'd add in McCabe and Bouwmeester.
Kathleen, a couple weeks back you wanted the leafs to dump McCabe, now you want him on Team Canada. He must be out of the doghouse!! ;)

After the Philly series, I am skeptical about McCabe and for all we know he could have played himself off the team, much like Regehr played himeself on the team. I would have liked to have seen Brad Stuart or Bouwmeester in there instead of Brewer. I personally think the team has some question marks, and I suppose these questions will only be answered come Aug/Sep!

revolver - I'll never dispute he is a great player. I was suggesting a trade for a star forward.
The GM who would agree to that trade would be the new Gord Stellick.

That's the great part of being Canadian we can bitch and moan about who should be there and who shouldn't and you know we are all right. Canada may be matched upto the first 23 but our depth is unmatched.
