There seems to be 2 schools of thought working on this issue.

At this point in time, Barry Bonds is on pace to set a new record for intentional walks in one season. The pace Bonds is on is for 129 walks (keep in mind the record for intentional walks is 68).

Is this bad for the game? or
Is this just part of normal strategy?

As a coach, or a player; shouldn't you do everything in your power to help the club win? Or....as a coach or a player, don't you want to prove yourself against the best available talent around?

Some people have a problem with this...some don't.....any thoughts?

This is strategy. It works. It's foolish to walk Bonds every time up, but in certain situations, it makes sense.
If anybody has a problem, I'd love to hear it.

Ask Barry Bonds to fix them. He can do anything.

If I relied on him to fix my car, then I'd be walking more than he.

Rule change.

Back when the rule makers were making up the rule book, they overlooked the fact that a player could get intentionally walked so much, and thus depriving the audience of what they paid their tickets for. An entertaining at bat.

Maybe there needs to be a new rule change, such as only one intentional walk per player per game. If some pitcher uses it up early in the game, then it just comes back to haunt them later.

Or maybe, a player can only be intentionally walked 50 times per season?

If there is a rule against intentional walk. What's gonna prevent a manager or pitcher from "un-intentionally-intentionally" walking someone? Say four pitches low and away. Will the umps police this rule? They already have a hard time telling the difference between a pitcher intentionally throwing at someone or not.

The problem with that argument is that I think the premise is slightly flawed. I think the fans are more interested in seeing the home team win than any particular individual at-bat, no matter who it is.

Although, I'm not opposed to change. I think a more workable rule would be something like they use in SPN slo-pitch - four straight balls with no strikes = two bases for the walk. This would force the defense to either concede second base on the intentional (or one of those intentional unintentional walks) or to throw him at least one pitch he can hit.

Baseball rules should not be changed for walks or most other things. The Phillies walked Bonds intentionally several times.Makes sense to me to walk Bonds anytime you wish, especially with men in scoring position. They should have gotten a better hitter batting behind him.You want to win the game ,so you walk him if nessesary.

It's part of the game. Can't/won't change it.

Better that the Giants get somebody behind him that can hit. Then Bonds wouldn't be walked as much.
