Portugal's Chances in Euro 2004

Portugal has been hit with bad luck as Ricardo Quaresma is injured for 4 months and Rui Jorge has tested positive for a banned substance which means he might be suspended for 6 months.
On top of that Cristiano Ronaldo hasnt been assured that he will make the team.

I think they have a shot at it.....
They have a Great Team.
Ronaldo will IMHO make the team if Quaresma is out......

Porto just Qualified for the CL Final...(That shows that the Portuguese are Hungry this Year...)

Ronaldo's been in good form lately even though United have struggled over the past month...

It's gonna be Porto and Monaco. I guess I know who you're rooting for, Snook.

It's gonna be nice to see a team other than Milan or Madrid in the final.

Portugal stinks...they are a poor man's Spain if you ask me, granted Spain has never done much internationally, but I think Portugal is very over-rated.

JH,
I can tell you my heart was pounding like crazy when Chelsea was winning 2-0 at some point.... Monaco made it through....
I was Flipping Channels between Chelsea-Monaco and Czech-USA in Hockey... USA made it in the Shootouts.

Big E,
I respectfully Disagree... I think that for the past 4 Years, Portugal has a better team than Spain. I mean, Spain lost to Korea... How worse can it Get?

Actually I was very impressed with S. Korea. Spain for some reason just doesnt do well in the world cup, I have no idea why!

Hiddink is a demi-god in Korea, they even named a city after him.
No kidding!!

thats all we have to guage on is the world cup...we honestly cant take too much stock into what occurs in friendlies!

and when Spain lost to Korea, it was the same world cup as the USA win over Portugal

Jaap Stam just signed with Ac Milan today for 2 years for 11 million Euro's.
Looks like they'll have a killer defence with Nesta et al.

do they still have the 2 grandpas? (Couto and Mihajlovic)
If yes then they really are in Trouble !!!!

I am going to Rome in July....

Lazio has (or had) money problems so they had to sell somebody. I hope they dont go the way of Fiorentina.

I really hope Valencia can hold on in Spain and win the title. I desperately want to see Madrid finish second or perhaps even 3rd. I dont hate them I just want to see someone different win.
If Rijkaard can finish 2nd with Barcelona then he should win the euro "coach of the year" award.

as far as I know, Roma is in far more financial straits compared to Lazio...Mihajlovic's best days are beyond him, but he can still take those free kicks, I hope he stays. Him and Couto's contracts are up so they will more than likely have a new Central D. As long as they manage to hold on to key players like Fiore, Cesar, and Corradi, especially Fiore who has been, IMO, one of Italy's best midfielders this season...then they can still compete because Mancini is such a great coach.

I fully agree, you cant put much weight on friendlies but you also cant count on qualifying records. Look at Argentina in 2002, they finished first in qualifying by beating the crap out of everyone and yet they couldnt even make it out of their group in Japan.

Brazil barely qualified for the 2002 world cup and they go on to win the thing. Go figure!!

Holland usually doesnt play well in qualifying, they do just enough to win. But when the tournament ball drops they kick into a higher gear.

Portugal is very overrated. If they lose to Greece in the 1st game, they'll be run outta there own country.
