A pointless hit - no need to further rile up the Wings.
The rest of the series will still be very hard-fought.
Seven games - Wings.

Certainly a pointless hit. However, there is a big difference between a pointless hit and a hit that warrants a suspension.

Next thing you know the NHL will want them to play with a nerf ball instead of a puck.

A suspension is harsh but a 3 second penalty is hardly going to deter players from trying to injure the opposition in games that are already decided. Perhaps the league should look at carrying over penalties from one game to the next during a series. A player would think twice about taking a needless penalty in the dying seconds of a game if they knew they were going to leave their team shorthanded in the following game.

Looks like the suspension had no effect for Calgary's sake. they won game 5 1-0.

I don't think a one-game suspension for such a clear cheap-shot wasn't warranted, unless you're just going to posit that the goalie wasn't injured.
I'm all for getting rid of such ridiculous behaviour. For once, I find myself thinking that the NHL got something right.
