I'd definitely say that Jerry West is more of a shooting guard and that Magic Johnson is more of a point guard.

shaq!

No disrespect to the old guys but it's shaq. He's got a HUGE physical presence, nice touch, and has a hard work mentality.

As for garnet, if he had a shot at a ring, he'd belong on any list.

My problem with Shaq on a list like this is simple...IMHO...Russell has 11 rings....11 out of 13 years....Kareem - all time scorer....devastating sky hook.....Wilt 100 points in a game....all 3 centers can shoot free throws.

Shaq sucks on the line - for a pro it's almost embarassing how bad his free throw shooting is. I like KG as a power forward...then againi also like TMacs game.

The Dream is an excellent choice - good shooter, posts up well against other big guys of teh time and is an excellent defender (93 and 94 defensive player of the year). If there was a spot I'd bump the Iceman for the Dream.

Malone without Stockton - what was I thinking! Stockton being the all time assists leader and a good perimeter shooter ( and the last player to wear the old school tight shorts when everyone went below the knees and baggy.lol) should be a shoe in. But....it would be hard to bump the guards I chose originally....hmmmm..

As for Sir Charles- nobody played harder. At 6'6" he was always shorter than his post defenders...but, a relentless rebounder. A bull of a man in the low post and an intensity that was matched only by his temper. He would certainly make my list - Bob Petite would have to go.

As for Scotty - great player but....I've always looked at Pipen as a suppoting member not the man. I league him with Micheal Cooper or Andrew Toney. Cooper was Magics boy and Toney was The Doctors main man. But players were made better by another....and the same applies for Pippen. The presence of Jordan gravitated his game to a new level. The post Jordan era was disasterous for Scottie. He mired in mediocrity on an underachieving Portland team. Maybe it was the team, maybe the other players ( the team is full of degenerates - Rasheed, Dmaon etc...), but Pippen didn't make them better and he never held up to his previous billing. Scottie Pippen is a great player - but IMHO not one of the greatest.

Look at how he played on the bulls when jordan took his first retirement, he the best player in the league... and when he first went to portland, they were 5 minutes away from the finals... then injuries.....He has always been underrated, he should not have stayed with the bulls...no his reputation is sidekick...., same as Kobe should not stay with Shaq...get your own team with a complementary sidekick

Can't find much fault with these selections, although I agree with mr cheeks about flip-flopping Magic and West at the 1 and 2, respectively. Only possible suggestion is trying to get Kevin McHale in there somewhere.

I also agree with the comments about Scottie Pippen. Great player, but definite second banana. He has never won anything without Michael.

Anyone who has watched Barkley play early in his career (86-90) cannot deny what an incredible force he was down low. Never seen a man at that time that big that can grab a rebound in traffic, push it down the court then jump up and throw down a 360 dunk. Big mouth. Even bigger performer.

For a team of all-stars, what PG could be better than the ultimate team player? Again, see what he did to Magic in the 1988 playoffs. 'nuff said.

Hakeem was great but not better than Wilt, Russell, Kareem or even Shaq.

Pippen lost all respect when he refused to go into a game in the playoffs because the play wasn't called for him.,\

mike, larry and Bill.

I have to say that with the older generation they were more focussed and knew how to win without having to think about stats or endorsements.

I would whole heartedly go with any team that had the heart of Michael, Larry and Bill Russel. Put those 3 plus any other 2 players, against anyone , and you'll have a competitive game.

I definately would never put isiah thomas on any list. not even on my worst player list. I don't think he should get any press, anywhere , at anytime.

I'd also make magic one of the most successful players after basketball. I can't imagine how much he's helped his community AFTER he stopped playing ball.

Players now are LAZY!

If I were to field a 12 or 15 man roster - I would consider Hakeem and Sir Charles before Shaq.

Shaq is a pitiful excuse for a PROFESSIONAL. A 40% free throw shooter - are you kidding?! Maybe acceptable by todays low standards, but; there is no way I would bump Wilt, Russell, or Kareem for Shaq- like I said previously - 100pts in 1 game, 11 rings in 13 years and all time points leader....hmmmm for Shaq?! lollolol.

I do agree - Magics contributions to the urban neighborhoods and the investments to the communities is an inspiration to young inner city entrepreneurs.

I agree- the Motor City "Bad boys" were overrated hoodlooms.
I never liked Lambeer (thought he was a moron),Rodman ...please...a total headcase - pure rebounder, thats it, Isaiah...overrated. On that team the only pro IMHO- Dumars - sweet shooter, smart....very smart exec (he's the exception to this motley crew).

Don't forget Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson and Rick "When He Sets a Pick, You Know It" Mahorn. Say what you want about them being a bunch of thugs, but they did win two back to back titles.

If Bryon Scott and Magic are healthy, Detroit doesn't win in 1989 finals; Portland just became intimidated in 1990 finals and should have won .. greatest dunk ever by Clyde. Pistons belong on "all thug" team but certainly not the "greatest". Everyone hates LAMEBEER (what an idiot -- picked Houston to upset lakers then Spurs now Minn. -- clearly just anti-Laker and doesn't know basketball).

George Gervin.

Someone picked George Gervin in the first post? George kept putting up numbers that didn't mean anything. Just like Reggie Theus.

PG: Magic, he had height, could play D, rebound, and run the fast break and the offense. If you needed points, he just posted you up. Nobody could stop him when he was healthy. My all time fave point guard.

Guard: Nate Archibald. How can a guy that was 5' 9" lead the NBA in scoring with over 30 points per GAME !!! For all you Shaq fans out there, he doesn't average thirty.

Center: I can't pick one. Gotta be Kareem, Bill Russell, and my surprise pick... Bill Walton. When he was healthy he was unbelieveable.

Forwards: Jordan I I know he played off guard in Chicago but he could play forward on my team ), Larry Bird, Doctor J, Elvin Hayes ( I never considered Elvin a true centre ).

Honorable Mention: Connie Hawkins, Kevin Mchale, John Havlicek, Moe Malone, Oscar Robertson, Walt Frazier, Reggie Miller ( just for his shot alone ).

PS: Ben Wallace can play on my team anyday. Just for his D, his boards, and his hustle.

I can't wait to see the Wallace's run Shaq in the finals. Bill Walto was right. Shaq is too fat !!!
