Let me see if I have this right....Eli Manning has publicly stated he refuses to play for the Chargers.
Hmmm....why do I get the feeling that the potato head GM of the Chargers will still draft him.

Seeing that the Chargers have a recent history of not knowing what to do with QBs.
Let me see....love Flutie....lost on Leaf.....Brees is still confused.....they should have taken Manning Sr......or Akili Smith.lol

Here's the question....if Jr. says he wont play for you...do you draft him anyway? Or should Jr. pull a Steve Francis?

Or a John Elway or an Eric Lindros and I'm sure there's more.

Actually all athletes can.

Remember when Yashin signed a contract then refused to lay after a year or two because he wanted his contract renegotiated ( the playoff performing choker wanted more money). Steve Francis of the Rockets wouldn't show up to the Grizzlies training camp. And of course, Lindross did it twice. First to the Soo Greyhounds (he wanted out to play for the Generals) then the Nordiques.
The irony there with Lindros ws that he made the other team better.lol.

The brain of a professional athlete doesn't work within the sensiblities of normal people - it is kinda funny thinking..." I won't play for this team or that team..blah blah blah".....Keep in mind the operative word here is play....it's a game that they PLAY - its not life or death. Morons. But maybe that's just me.

Well, to be fair, it seems to me that if someone doesn't want to play for a team (that is LIVE and WORK in a city for some reason), he shouldn't have to. That's the way it was designed, and some players choose to take advantage of it.
No?
It's THEIR lives - if they want to take this gamble, it doesn't affect me in the slightest.
Now, renegotiating a contract is a bit different - at that point, they've SIGNED A DEAL to play for a certain amount of money - they've already agreed to play there for a set amount - these guys are leaning towards the "spoiled brat" end of the spectrum.
In the end, it's still in the same mould, though - why should I care what they decide to do within the rules?
Just my opinion.

Speaking of Elway shack as you may recall he was drafted by The New York Yankees and was going to play for them if Baltimore never traded him. Brings us to Drew Henson. A sure fire number one pick out of Michigan he originally snubbed Houston to play for the yanks. He was doing pretty good too, but I think the pressure of playing in New York was the key factor in Henson going back to football. As you may or may not know Bill Parcells traded for him and Henson is expected to be the starter for the hated Pokes.
Yeah, and Henson screwed Michigan after verbally agreeing to stay, which affected their recruiting strategy. And that had George Steinbrenner, with his Ohio State background, grinning from ear-to-ear... :)

The funny thing about Lindros refusing to play for teams was that both teams(Soo, Nords\Avs) won championships, aided by the players Lindros was traded for.

Loved the look on Eli's face when the Chargers drafted him though. More and more is coming out about the behind the scenes shenangians and it's just silly. Eli has every right to say he doesn't want to play for the Chargers and take his chances by going back into the draft again next year (has there been a case where the same guy's been drafted #1 twice?). Given how badly the Chargers needed to upgrade, they had no choice but to grab him, knowing they probably could get Rivers, someone they wanted and the picks. I think it's silly that his dad was dragged into this by the Chargers, but it did give them the option of blaming it all on Archie.

Out of all of this, I hope Palmer is making the most of his ten lovely young ladies on the Bachelor because that's about the only action he's going to see now.

Gotta love them 'Boys. Finally some hope at the pivot.

Palmer may be safe for now because the Giants are going to release Kerry Collins. You can't blame the Manning family not wanting Eli to play for the Chargers... Archie took a shit-kicking while playing QB for crappy Saints teams during his career.
