Either Ottawa fired the wrong guy or another firing is to come. Jacques Martin did the best job he could possibly do with what he had. John Muckler is the person that shoud be accountable for the teams dismal showing. Patrick Lalime had a .500 winning percentage this year, and Muckler felt that his goaltending would not be an issue in the playoffs this year. So he went out and aquired Peter Bondra who scored 5 goals in 30 games for Ottawa. Olaf Kolzig would have looked great in a Senators jersey right about now, and if that was the case.....they would still be playing hockey right now. Why the team that scored the most goals in the NHL felt a need to go out and aquire more offence is beyond me, not to mention they aquired a player that hasn't put up good offensive numbers in 3 or 4 years. In the nine years that Jacques Martin was behind the bench of the Senator's , not once did he have the luxury of a big league NHL goalie. No offence but Ron Tuggnuit, Damain Rhodes and Patrick Lalime are not going to lead a team to the promised land, I don't care how much talent you have. Someone has to be accountable, and it's unfortunate that Jacques is the scapegoat, but then again I've never seen a G.M. fire them self before. Just maybe next year the Senator's brass and fans just might realize the hard way, that Jacques actually got more out of that team from the talant they had.
And I'm starting a new thread with this post just to piss Doctor off, and yes I did notice the other 15 threads about the same topic.
