Predictions anyone?

This series will go 7 games for sure, Ottawa will bounce back after the crappy performance on Friday. Only the final score is in question in my mind. I go out on a limb and call it 3-1 Sens!

Kathleen (and others): As I said in another thread this getting into guys heads is a huge mistruth at this level of sports. I will guarantee you that NOT ONE Senator is thinking about previous game 6s. If they were then they wouldn't be where they are.

I used to play AAA hockey with the Huskies and we were more concerned with line combos, breakout plays, powerplay ideas and other game related things not on the mind games. Me thinks that as a pro that gets more detailed and focused.

All of what you said is a hope for all of us Leaf fans. (And to be sure what you hope for is what I hope for).

I also hope for one more thing. A bloody more entertaining game than last night's bore fest. The Tampa/NYI game was far more exciting.

Kathleen - While I applaud your belief and cheering for your Maple Leafs your posts, when it comes to real analysis, are based on hope and fantasy and not on fact. (Sorry I don't mean to come across rude or like I am flaming you but your statements here are inaccurate.)
1. Spezza does not have 'first appearance' gitters. Last year in Game 5 in the Conference FINAL he single handedly brought the Senators back from a 3-1 game deficit. The team rode this to force a deciding game 7. If anything, Spezza is not a bang 'em player and the style in this series is not to his likeing, which he must find a way around. But in no way shape or form is it gitters!!
2. The Leaf PLAYERS have yet to show in any game that they want the win. Game 5 was a snooze fest with a fortuitous own goal giving the Leafs the win. The other victories were ridden on the back of Belfour. While his netminding has been great, its a bit naive to suggest the Leafs are going to take the play to the Sens as they have yet to show that for any sustained period of time, let alone an entire game.
3. SQ brings a very valid point and as I have played sports before our teams never thought of previous encounters and 'getting in our minds' nonsense. You mentioned SQ can't speak for other, well then how can you? (an aside, did you play team sports?) Truth is you don't know what is going through their minds eihter so don't speak for them!!

BTW - Your assesment of the injury situation may not be known until game time. Sundin is still very much a maybe and Joe won't know until he gets up tomorrow morning.

But 'used to play AAA' is not I am a current Pro althlete in the NHL either. Only if you were can you suggest you know the mind set of yourself. You still couldnt speak for others.

Myself, I can't see how certain things wouldn't play on a player. Like constantly thinking watch out for a hit by Varada, or Marchment out there. Or being one of the Sens who was eliminated by Toronto before not to have it run through your mind now.

This guys are NHL Pros, yes. But they're only human, and no different then you or I. Just more talented when it comes to this game. I'm sure more then a few are thinking about teeing off Monday.
Having played some OHL hockey, past experience accounts for zip, ziltch, zero. History is history no matter what team you play on. It doesn't get into you head. This type of bullsh*t is just the media stirring things up to sell more newspapers!

A players focus is on the next game, the next shift and the next play that you make. If history was something strong as you suggest, the fact that the Leafs haven't won the Cup since 1967 would be playing in the mind of all Leafs players, and I doubt that it is.

Toronto did play a defensive game and Ottawa played into their hands. I can assure you that you will see a much different Sens team tommorrow night. They know it is play hard and win or hit the golf course, no second chances now.

I'll stick with my original prediction - Leafs in seven.

As for the idea of negative thoughts getting into players' heads, I'm not sure how much credence to give it. HOWEVER, *most* professional sports teams employ or regularly use psychotherapists and positive-reinforcement gurus from time to time - this would seem to imply that even professional athletes, being human as they are, need to learn to focus positively and practice this regularly.
You wouldn't be human if negative thoughts didn't creep into your conscious and sub-conscious.

I don't believe this "getting into other people's heads" is a huge mistruth at all. Perhaps it's overemphasized - as you would expect a media looking for stories to do - but I firmly believe it's there, to some degree.

I must be out of step in the music world. Anyone know who the 'Northern Pikes' are? They are playing a pre-game concert outside the Corel Centre before Game 6 tonight and I'm wondering if they are worth going early to see?

Come on Eugene, the least you could have done was brought back the Eagles!

I certainly hope the Leafs finish off the Sens tonight, and I think they will. Although there is nothing better than a game 7 of a Stanley Cup playoff series (except overtime in a game 7 of a Stanley Cup playoff series), I'd prefer to have this one over and start looking forward to round 2.

As has been proven time and time again, anything can happen in a game 7... so here is to hoping the Leafs finish it off tonight!

p.s. Yeah, I'm a Detroiter who is visiting T.O. right now, but the Leafs have been my 2nd favorite team for a long time. Nothing would make me happier than to see a Wings/Leafs finals.

"She Ain't Pretty She Just Looks That way " from circa 1990. They have been pretty big in the late 80's but haven't done much since. I would go. It's rock and roll music.

Damn tension is killing me. I am so nervous. The Leafs will call upon their luck again and get the fortuitous bounce once again where the Sens score on their own net somehow. :(
